Smoked Ham caused a reaction in ds. ???

Apparently, while eating dinner with friends, I ate "smoked" spiral sliced ham. I did not prepare the meal so I'm not aware of the brand, purchase location, etc. I made and ate spiral sliced ham with a home made glaze on Easter and ds was fine so I didn't even think to ask about this ham.
I do know the "smoked" ham also had a homemade honey glaze and ds should have been fine with all the ingredients.
Any ideas what might have been in that ham to make ds have a reaction? He has had a patch of eczema on his head and had a few specks of blood in his poop the day after eating the ham.
I assume the "smoke" of the "smoked" ham wasn't an actual smoking process. Do you think a liquid smoke of sorts?

I'd like to narrow this down, if I can, to avoid eating something similar.

TIA

eta: Meant to add that my research of liquid smoke leads me to believe it's just the juice from smoking wood that's then aged and bottled. I thought there might be some kind of preservative but there doesn't appear to be.

What's on his "avoid" list?

Sorry, should have added that as well.

We are currently avoiding dairy, soy, chicken and eggs, wheat, gluten, legumes, and chocolate.
Oh yes, and smoked ham

I know it's very hard to find ham without corn, that's why I asked. It's usually the glaze (if it's storebought) that has things in it. You could just ask what the brand was from the person and look up the ingredients, no?

I asked. She doesn't even recall which store she bought the ham at.
I thought of just going out and reading random labels to see if I can find a common ingredient.
I did think of corn as well but why was my ham fine and hers not when we both made our own honey/brown sugar glaze. kwim

I have only found one corn-free/safe ham for us. Can't remember what was in all the others though. There's always potassium lactate and things like that in them, but you'd have to find out the source, which would mean calling the company and you don't know the company. I hate it when that happens. I always want to know for sure to make sure I'm not dealing with a "new" food trigger.

Almost all have corn as the pp said. One I recently checked had oranges (my son is orange allergic). All of them usually list "seasonings" which could be almost anything (gluten, MSG, sesame).

I really don't think you'll figure this out w/out knowing the brand.

Exactly! I'm concerned there's something new and I don't want ds to suffer needlessly as the reaction was pretty rotten.
Corn didn't seem to be an issue and I don't think I've completely avoided it since the ham.
The eczema has remained but hasn't gotten worse either. The thing I'm most concerned about is the blood. He has had that only once before but I'm uncertain of the trigger. It was dairy, soy, or legumes. Who knows what might have been in/on that ham.

I really don't think you'll figure this out w/out more information.
Does she have two possible stores or something?
Unless you can figure out possible ham brands I'd let this go and hope it was one of his known allergies.
I'd just take this (bad it sounds like) experience as a reminder never to eat anything you've not checked yourself. I learned that the hard way with my son.

This is the first time I've eaten anywhere but home. Serves me right
A friend wants to make me some food as I've not been feeling well recently and I am absolutely terrified of what she'll bring. After the ham, I'm thinking of just asking for fresh fruit and veg. lol

I think the glaze with Aldi's spiral sliced hams have soy. But I could easily be wrong!

Are there hams with a glaze already on them???
I've only made ham with a home made glaze. Maybe there was something on the ham already and then my friend added her home made glaze? grrrr
must. let. this. go.
