Hmm, I bet you could get an actual chest strap from an ergo or something for cheap. Maybe.

rhi -- Do you use the accessory strap for anything? Do you narrow the bottom?

Your connecta came with a strap? I don't think either of the ones I have (the borrowed one or my own) did. I'd love to be able to narrow the bottom. If I could it would definitely be my go-to carrier. As it is I only use it when it's really really hot, because she can't really spread her legs. But that would also help her stay cooler.

Love the connecta. I've been stalking TBW FSOT for one, but they go fast.

I learned a RRRR with my new shorty!

They aren't THAT much more to get direct from England ($92, I think?), and ours arrived in a week and a day. I figured that the extra few bucks was worth it to have it during the summer heat.

Since I can't really spread anna's legs either I'll use the moby for longer wearing still and the mei tai for quick wears otherwise she's cranky when she wakes up froggied.

well, I solved my water carrier problem and made my own mesh buckle tei!
Action shot
It's supposed to be hot tomorrow and I can't wait to try it out!

I just sold my Earthy Rainbow w/fringe since it was a bit cumbersome for us. A friend lent me her Lachs nino and I have been reaching for that much more often - its only a 5. So I paid my friend to keep Lachs here w/my ER proceeds. ER looked great on us, but it was a beast!

other than that, not much change in my stash. I have a solarveil RS my mom made me for the pond, but I haven't used it because I've been too busy working at home to enjoy the outdoors. but dh tried it out today...

Can't wait to back wear... her head is not quite strong enough yet and I'm not quite good enough at back wrapping her so that it doesn't matter.

finn'smama -- Love it! Did you freehand it or find instructions for a mesh one?

I was inspired by a thread over at TBW in DIY forum and it had links to MT patterns. I just used general measurements and drew out a simple pattern. It was surprisingly easy! Thankfully we were up late the night before last for Canada Day and all the kids slept in the afternoon, so I could actually complete a project for once, lol!
It's really comfortable and feels pretty strong. Certainly strong enough for this year, and likely we won't need it next year. I'm very happy with it and glad I didn't spend $90 right now, since I'd rather spend that on wraps

Rhi, that's a high degree of difficulty!

I just finished sewing a pouch sling for one of DH's coworkers. I've got another in the queue to make. He's working on converting people.

What kind of mesh did you use/where did you get it? I want to do a wrap, since they're what I'm most comfortable with, and Cecilia needs to face out or she throws a fit.

Here's me and my LO in the Maya Wrap. We just started during the Kangaroo carry and DS loves it!

We actually do it with his hands out, this picture was taken when I was still a rookie

I continue to get mostly good comments/looks about the wrap with occasional asshattery thrown in. Like at the Pacific Science Center "you know those have been recalled, right?" "actually, no, this is not one of the recalled ones" "but they're all dangerous because they can suffocate your baby, look how close she is to you" "actually, no, the recalled ones held the baby down away from you, at your hip, and folded the baby, and that's why they could suffocate." At which point I turned my shoulder from her and she scuttled away. Ugh.

This balanced, however, by quite a few nicer observations. I just...ARGH...I don't deal with this often, I have never been harassed about nursing in public or any other parenting practice by a stranger, and to get it a whole bunch over babywearing is just mind-boggling.

Anyway, we went hiking the other day. E still can't do the backpacking carrier, and hates being on my back in the wrap...can't wait for her to grow into the backpack. Pictures (on my blog) here: http://lifeatnikis.blogspot.com/2010/07/venturing.html

I was so excited about getting a woven wrap to do back carries. I borrowed one from my babywearing group, and I thought I had finally gotten it (after 6 tries) when DH pointed out that DS's toes were going blue. Fail.
I haven't tried it since. DS talks a LOT while I'm trying to get it on. If I have to try more than once, he complains.
How long till I can do the Mei Tai with him in a back carry?
