Tell me about night weening

My 11mo (soon to be 12mo!) nurses through the night non stop. He wakes up fussing, nurses (while wiggling/ crawling in his sleep) drifts off to sleep and repeats every hour or so. We co sleep and don't plan on doing otherwise, but I didn't know how to go about trying to very gently night ween. At this point I am getting almost no sleep...and am feeling quite like a zombie. Help?

I night-weaned my DD when she was 14 mo. old. At that point she was waking-up 4-5x per night to nurse and I was getting no sleep. I have to tell you, night-weaning did not immediately lead to more sleep for us. That part took another month or so. Night-weaning was tough for the first couple of days, but it got gradually easier as each night progressed, so I felt like we were making progress and should continue. We used Dr. Jay Gordon's method. It is geared specifically toward co-sleeping families. I found it to be a very gentle and gradual method. I do not recommend it or any other method for babies under a year old (and neither does Dr. Jay).

Good luck!

To me, that is very young to be nightweaning.

Do you co-sleep with a partner. Can you have baby sleep on the other side of DP so he can't smell you quite as well?

Are you already napping with baby?

How does your "go to bed" work?

Thanks for bringing this up. I have the exact same problem. My daughter is also 11.5 months, co sleeping, and we are getting no sleep. And thanks for the article, from Jecombs, I was thinking of giving up BF completely to get through the night weaning, but I'll try the Dr Jay Gorden method. DD will be a year in May and me and my husband are more than ready.
