Please help me figure out what DS is reacting to

DP and I looked at DS yesterday and he has horrible allergy shiners. It has been getting slowly worse but he actually looked like someone had hit him
I would like to start to try to figure out what is causing the reactions.

Here is our history... We tend to eat more traditional foods and are GF/DF/Sugar free/going soy-free (I am grain-free) and have been for most of DS's life. He had indicators of celiacs so we did allergy testing which came back negative. He continued to have large rashes on his face so we went GF/CF.

Here is what he ate yesterday -
Smoothie with strawberries, carrot, and apple
eggs with sauteed greens, onions and homemade salsa, sausage, almond milk
roasted chicken thighs and roasted asparagus
mussels, shrimp, and scallops in white wine shallot sauce
peanut butter, honey, and coconut mixed with Coconut oil.

Today
small bowl puffins Fruit cereal and almond milk
eggs, uncured bacon, olives, greens, onions, homemade salsa
Apple Lara Bar and Apricot Fruit leather
1 slice GF bread (tapioca, rice, and potato flour)

What do we start with...

*I* would probably start with eggs if he is eating them pretty much every day. You could pretty easily replace them with more meat.

It could be anything. How long have the allergy shiners been there? Is it the only indication? Could it be environmental allergies? I'd start keeping the journal and see if there's anything more of a pattern...

He has them pretty much all the time... they were just really bad yesterday. I guess eggs would be a good place to start. How long 2 weeks, longer?

Could it be pollen allergies? They are really bad right now in many places. If it's year round what about an indoor allergen like dust? I'm not sure I'd assume foods. I say that because he's eating a very "allergenic" (major/top allergens throughout it looks like) diet w/out any (other) noticeable and typical signs of food allergies. So I'd be thinking broader than food reactions for him.

Could be low magnesium, that creates shiners for some people. He's eating a lot of salicylates, and that can run down magnesium, molybdenum, and B6.

His food sounds yumm, will you come cook for me

He is taking these vitamins. Should I look into adding something else? We have seen an increase in energy with salicylates and try to limit them after dinner. Maybe we should start there instead of eggs?

Eggs would be my first guess too.

Well, we reacted to sals and not eggs, so I'd guess sals, but what do I know, LOL!

That multi doesn't do enough for mag and probably for molybdenum either. I'd add 250-300mg of mag (separately from the multi), and see what happens. Use any form except mag oxide - I like mag glycinate. If he will swallow capsules, that's the way to go, mag doesn't taste good. Epsom salts baths are another possibility (I suggest in addition to the oral mag, not in place of).

Eep, just looked at the vitamins again - they have a ton of really high sals ingredients. Pineapple & cherry flavors, herbs (nettles, ginger, peppermint). That alone would have made my DS nuts when he was at his most sals sensitive.

If you're seeing "high energy" after consuming sals, I'd cut out everything on the high/very high sals list here, and cut the multi, and add mag (oral & Epsom salts), for about 4-5 days. If sals are the issue, you should see lots of improvement in just a few days. I always suggest trying a few days low sals, because it's a pretty fast result - you can rule it out or know you have issues pretty quickly.

thanks mamafish, we will be working on this over the next few days. I'll come back and report how we are doing.

I think others' suggestions are fine to start out with. Some other thoughts:
Was the sausage homemade? There can be lots of ingredients in sausage.
Did YOU roast the chicken? Even fresh chickens may be injected with water/broth, and that can have added ingredients
