Hired a dumpster!

We hired a dumpster to clear out my back yard. The old fence needed to be replaced and a huge part of the replacement estimate was demoing the old one. We had several other items that needed to go too so it just made sense to do it all at once with the dumpster.

We filled it! One of the things to go was the playhouse my father built 30 something years ago. When my parents divorced and sold the house I grew up in my sister wanted the playhouse. We moved it to her house but there was no way to get it into her backyard because of the carport. So we moved it to my yard where it slowly decayed. I thought about restoring it but it was now unsafe. My BiL and DH ripped it apart in minutes. I took pictures and my sisters and I were wistful and said good bye to our childhood.

We took out some odd planters that surrounded the patio so now you can sit there and see the kids playing in the back yard. I think I need to get a termite inspection however.

Also this weekend the stuff we were storing in our shed for a group we belong to got moved to another storage facility. I'll be able to put my camping stuff in there as well as some other things from my basement. I might be able to make some messy project space in the basement so maybe just maybe maybe I'l keep the living space cleaner.

Anyway, I just wanted to advocate getting a dumpster. I looked at a lot of places and ended up going though Home Depot. YMMV

Don't know how full it is now but when we got a dumpster for house renos we learned the hard way that if you open up the door on the back & walk the stuff in & stack it neatly you can fit a LOT more stuff in. Our second dumpster ended up holding at least double that of our first one that we just chucked things in over the side.

I want a dumpster so badly this spring. We have some major renos to do and I don't want to haul materials to the dump. So, Home Depot, eh? Wouldn't have thought of them!

Thanks for the tip of stacking! It's something that makes a lot of sense but wouldn't have thought of it in the moment.

Awesome idea. We have two sheds that need to come down & our pool needs to be removed.

We got a dumpster last summer and filled it. My DH is one of those that loves to take other peoples junk. It had filled my basement and backyard and I was sick of it. We filled it, I felt a little guilty taking all that stuff to the dump, but it was other peoples junk that we kept out of the landfill for a couple more yrs.
