We have down comforters on our beds (or alternative versions). DD has hers in a duvet and kicks it off before she falls asleep. It is meant to be a blanket, so I answered that way.

We have a warm-ish comforter for "winter" (our cool season) and a down blanket (very lightweight) for the rest of the year. I toss a flat sheet over the top to protect the comforter/blanket from the kitten and child. We sleep under the flat sheet/comforter/flat sheet, but often fold down the blanket and top flat sheet in the heat of summer (no A/C) just sleeping under the flat sheet closest to the mattress. Gosh, that sounds complicated...maybe I am just tired. It is very easy in real life.

In the warm months, I just swap DD's comforter (lightweight, but she runs HOT) for a flannel sheet for her to use as a blanket. She has two very nice comforters (one is real down and one is alternative down) and no one who stays with us regularly, nor DD, like either of them. DD has a twin bed and a trundle (twin), so I have 2-3 of everything for her room to handle guests. Three sets of sheets, two comforters, two matching duvets, three pillows, and a handful of blankets of varying weights. We have regular guests who prefer double size top sheets and blankets. We have guests who prefer no top sheet at all and no comforters, just a fleece blanket...two, if it is cold. And we have DD (age 9), who kicks off everything no matter what it is... except the tiniest of blankets... and always has since infancy. She hates socks, too. Until the last year or so, she would only keep a baby blanket on during the night regardless of temperature. She has moved up to a quilt that is bigger than the average baby blanket of today, but was DH's baby blanket eons ago. Crazy kid!
