PL'ing a child who hates wearing underwear

Ds is 3.5 yrs old and refuses to wear underwear. As soon as we get home he totally gets undressed except for his diaper. Luckily, we live in a warm climate. During the day when he does not wear a diaper he goes on the toilet or his potty all by himself. He never has accidents. He's tried on his underwear but wants it off within a few minutes. I've convinced him once to wear the underwear out to the park. He had an accident and then wanted his diaper back on. Anyone have any ideas for a child who does not want to wear underwear? I've even gotten him the thomas underwear but he still has no interest. I'm not in any hurry but in Aug I was planning to have him go to preshool for 2 mornings. Anyone been through this?

Mine were all a bit younger but they didnt wear underwear for MONTHS after we potty trained. Summer time we wore loose fitting knit shorts ( like t-shirt material) and cooler times we wore sweat pant type pants. All commando. Any thing snug on their bottoms they would wet their pants. They still perfer boxers.

No experience, but can he go commando? What about boxers instead of briefs, or just a larger size/looser fitting style?

Everything I read about PLing said that nakey butt time was key and that when you start with underwear it should be loose, or else don't even bother using it. Just put him in loose-fitting pants/shorts.

I noticed when my son was first PLing that he'd be fine at home naked or just in underwear, but once he had on underwear and shorts he'd have accidents. He frequently will agree to wear underwear, but then says, "No pants." I think the sensation of two thinner layers is just weird to him.

Great idea. Why didn't I think about just not putting on underwear. I guess I was just thinking most kids have no problem w the underwear. I'm just gonna get some loose shorts and start off that way. Thanks.
