Made Wool Covers without Felting

Oh no! I made 7 wool covers for this new babe without reading up a ton on it first. I just used some old sweaters of my DH's and a few from a thrift store. I didn't do anything special to them first, just cut and sewed.

Are they doomed to not work?

no, they should be fine!

You will want to lanolize them, but then they should be as good as knit soakers. If the fabric is thinner they may only be good for daytime, but still useful.

Whew! They were well worn/used sweaters, so they certainly went through lots of washing prior to being made into soakers. They're just so tiny already that if I had to felt them now my dd's dolls may have trouble wearing them!

I may add another layer to the wet zone of the thinner ones since I will probably primarily use them at night. I also crocheted a knit sleep sack though, so between the thin knit soaker and thick crocheted sleepsack over a pocket fitted that's stuffed with microfiber, I should be good I would hope!

if you have any wool left you could felt it a ton & sew it into the wet zone.

I've found that I don't like my recycled wool felted too much b/c it gets stiff. So I get around that by adding the 2nd layer just in the wet zone.
