I just got the greatest deal at a yard sale... 18 large windows for $15. I've seen some pics online where people have turned old windows into greenhouses, so I think we may try it. Has anyone else ever tried this? If so I'd love any advice you may have and would love to see some pictures of how it turned out.

I just snagged some windows from the garbage.Tried to get a huge one in the car,but it just wouldn't fit.Grrrrr I want a pick up.
Anyway I have seen them made into cold frames with brick/wood around, and the window on top. That is what I plan to do with mine.Plus a window for the chicken shed!

We did a small cold frame last year and it worked out great, I just need a lot more space.Quote:

My Dad did this and it works great... the only thing you need to worry about is if there might be lead paint or putty on the windows.

Great find! One bit of advice I've seen for cold frames with used windows is that regular windows aren't tempered, but patio doors are. If you don't have enough windows to do the whole thing, I might try to get patio door windows to do parts of the greenhouse that the little ones might be liable to run into. (That is, if you have little ones like mine, who would be bound to run into the darned thing.
