Hate the way my baby's head smells

Okay, so technically I have a 2 year old now.....but it has taken me this long to feel secure enough to admit this. Please tell me, do you know what this means?

I always pictured that everyone LOVES the way their baby smells. Then I had mine. When DD was a baby I absolutely was repulsed by the way her head smelled--her natural smell. Although we only used water and occasionally a little TWIG soap to clean her....she smelled like some weird chemical ickiness to me. Yet everyone else would hold her and say, "oh i love the way babies smell". I am not sure when this stopped for me...maybe a year. Now I want to nibble her smell right up.

Any theories?

I praciticed attachment parenting and BF.

Is it a sign of PP depression?

I know right, my DD smelled floral and sweet. Honestly my son's head has always smelled like a wet puppy, which is very much like what pubescent boys often smell like. My son had cradle cap and that smelled gross, he still smells pretty funky at times.

Not sure about chemically smells...but I had trouble with my babies nestling into my armpit while nursing and then smelling like B.O. (my deoderant never was as effective as I wished) I never cared for that :-P...I also really dislike the smell of California Baby super sensitive baby wash, but we are sensitive, so it was needed.

For the most part, I love the way DS's head smells. But, he did have some yucky cradle cap that gave him a "cheesy" smell - sorry, I don't know how else to describe it. It reminded me of parmesan cheese! Also, occasionally, his head has smelled musty to me - not sure why.

As to the "chemical" smell - did you use disposable diapers? One brand we used at the beginning had such a strong smell, I couldn't stand it - it was very fake & perfumy. Also, whenever someone else held DS, I could smell their smell on him - usually strong perfume/cologne, etc. I hated that.

Yeah when I would notice that my babies would smell I figured out that this was what was happening, poor things lol. Anyways I never found a solution for it but once they quit sticking there head in my arm pit it quit.

Now that they are toddlers they stink sometimes as well, but it is just a sweaty toddler smell.

I agree about the California babies super sensitive. Not a fun smell, but my dd's and I still use it because it gets us clean without rashes.
