Whats the simplest to make?

I currently use these http://www.babykind.co.uk/blueberrypocket.htm and I love them BUT I could do with a few more as I seem to go through them faster than they wash and I also have a new baby due in a couple of months so need a whole set for that baby too at these prices I just cant afford that!.

I have a sewing machine and had a go at making one using a pattern I found online, I tested it with one of the current inserts but it leaked EVERYWHERE as soon as my one year old peed!. It looked very nice but just didnt keep anything in. My sewing skills are not wonderful, I can sew simple patterns but nothing incredibly complex.

I really wanted soft material (my current ones are all fleece) because my daughter had a bad reaction to the plasticy covers (the bambino mio ones like these http://www.bambinomio.com/our-products/nappy-covers)

I would also really like them to be pretty (shallow I know but I love her little bottom in the ones she has lol)

where can I start to fix this problem what is the easiest and most effective way for an amateur to start?

What were you using for the outer material? The one you linked to uses laminated minky for the outer (so it's soft and fluffy, but there's a waterproof layer).

We pretty much exclusively use RRPs. Have you tried that pattern? (Rita's Rump, it's free) It is super easy to make. We mostly do flannel outer and inners, but do have some with fleece outer so they are an AI2. For our newborn, we just modified the pattern to be more newborn sized. I did make some with snaps, some with aplix (for sure the fleece ones), and most of them we use pins on. I'm pretty sure with the RRP, you can use any fabrics you'd like. For our 2 year old, we do have some that are a bit bigger than the pattern also. I'd say the pattern size that is posted fit our DS comfortably from around 6 months to 18 months.

we love the rita's rump pocket pattern. google it, it's free and you print off the actual pattern to trace and cut out. i am a very rudimentary sewer so i love that about that pattern. I can't draft a pattern to save my life. but it's meant for flannel so you add a seam allowance to the pattern and you are good to go as a stuffable flannel fitted. or dont' add the seam allowance and make it a stretchy knit stuffable fitted. If you want an aio, you can make the outer out of fleece and inner of flannel or knit and use that as a stuffable aio. Personally I like them as knit fitteds under wool soakers for bedtime.

If you wanted something truly simple and easy, get a king-sized sheet from the thrift store and cut it into 27" squares for flats and zigzag the edges. Now THAT is simple! And cheap! But those flannel sheets or knit sheets from the thrift store are what I usually make our fitteds out of too.
