allergy/intolerance in newborn?

ds is 3 wks old. i have oversupply issues and while we were working that out he had a few days of green poops every few hours that resulted in a pretty intense rash around his anus. poops are great now and have been for about two weeks (no green, no mucus, no blood, just normal yellow 1-2x d). however, the rash looked yeasty so i treated the yeast and it got a lot better but then i put him in this cloth diapers that made it worse, ugh. so i have in his hemp ones now and the rash is getting better again, but slower than i would like (just really red in two lines on each side of his anus) -- he's had a rash for about two weeks now. he also burps a ton, spits up some and is a little gassy.

we are vegan, so i am a little paranoid that the red rash is a soy reaction. i'll eliminate soy and figure out things from there if i need to, but i really don't want to do two weeks+ of no soy if i am just overreacting

any words of wisdom, wise mamas?

That does sound like it could be an allergy rash. I would cut out soy and see what happens. My DS developed his sensitivity to soy (and egg) very early. I also thought his rashes were yeast...it took a lot of time for me to realize (and come to terms with) the fact that they were allergy.

I should also add that I am vegetarian, and really didn't want to cut out soy either. Surprisingly, I feel a lot better now that I have. DS can't even have soy lecithin.

You mentioned his rash got better when you switched to the hemp cloth diapers. I have known babes who got rashes with any diapers that have the suede cloth liners (bum genius comes to mind) but did fine with cotton or winpro fleece. Might be something to consider as well.

thanks all! i've been discreetly cutting out soy (SO is a worrier and i don't want him to be stressing until i know for sure it's an allergy), plus lots of bum out time, breast milk on the rash, etc. we have a pediatrician's appt on fri afternoon, so i'll be asking her what she thinks then too.
