SO Hard to Space Plants Correctly!

Does anybody else have this problem? They look so little-bitty, all spread out however far they need to be! I look and think, they're never going to fill up all that space! (Of course they are, of course they are. I've never had tomatoes that didn't just LOOM over everything by August.) They just seem so pathetic and lonely, here a zinnia, 12 inches over, a cosmos. It's so hard not to scootch them closer together for company.

I must be firm with myself and plant with a ruler. That's all there is to it.

Also, who else plants too many seedlings to begin with, assuming that they won't all make it, then has to scramble to find room for them around the yard?

Please say I'm not alone!

Yeah I hear ya! I helped plant a garden yesterday at a friends house.... this helps me learn more in the process.

She had use using our middle finger to forearm to measure the space needed to plant larger things like kale, chard, broccoli. Then we got to fill in the spaces with smaller, faster growing veg like spinach and lettuce.

This actually helps with the wide open look of the new garden. Marigolds are another good plant to fill-in with.
