Already soaking prefolds - help!

My 10 day old dd, who weighs 8lb is soaking through the infant prefolds more quickly than I can change her (sleeps a lot, so she gets changed every 3 hrs approx). These are the same diapers that worked really well with my other 3 kids till they outgrew them. I can't add a doubler because the diaper is already really bulky on her!

Already planning on trying the Sandies, which I liked for my heavy-wetting boys when they were toddlers.

Any suggestions of a natural-fibre diaper that would work better than the prefold? I'm looking mostly for a night-time solution instead of the sposies (even they are full when I change her at night!).

Do you think laying something really thin would help at all? Like a baby washcloth or scraps of flannel?

I used Bum Genius on my Dd and they worked great, but they were the one size pocket style so not natural fibers. Although I do think they make one with natural fibers. Not quite sure as I only use pf and flats now.

I wonder if a flat would provide any more absorbency than a infant pf? I don't know.

My DD has always been a huge wetter but we made it with prefolds and then threw some flats in at the end.

How are you folding the diaper? With her I would start like a newspaper fold (fold the sides in) and then jelly roll the rest of the way in. That way there was a little more absorbency. Also, when you say soaked, is that just in the wet zone or whole diaper? I found that a fleece insert was a great way to wick moisture away from the skin and give a feel dry feeling.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The diaper is totally saturated, as in you could wring it out! I can't see that the flannel boosters I have will make any difference.
As for folding, I've been trifolding and then folding the front down to fit, so there's loads of absorbancy.
I'm hoping that as she starts to stay awake longer during the day (rather than just sleeping and eating!) I'll be able to change her more frequently, but that still need to find a night-time solution.

You might want to try Crickett's diapers? They're hemp/cotton and they absorb a LOT. They also come with a booster too.

I remember looking into crickett's for another of my kids, but I'm a little worried about stink issues with the hemp.

FWIW, I find I get stink issues with my BG microfibre inserts, but haven't noticed any with Cricketts...

Right now, I'm figuring out how to wash the prefolds again! It's been a few years since my youngest finished with diapers, which was around the time we got our new washing machine, and I've also switched detergents (the one I used is no longer available). So, I'm nervous because I remember stink issues with the hemp inserts I have in larger sizes.

Anyway, back to diaper choices, looks like a choice between the Sandy's cotton, the Sandy's bamboo and the Crickett's.
Any opinions, anyone?

I've heard very good things about the Sandy's absorbency. If you don't have any yet and will be buying them I'd probably get a few extra doublers just in case your little lady keeps on being a big peer as she grows, and for sleep times.

The cotton Sandy's are supposed to be more durable than the bamboo ones, in case you're planning to use them for future kiddos.

Just wanted to throw it out there: hemp allergy, my DD has it! Might want to try a few out before getting a whole stash... luckily I was gifted a few and found out!

Maybe flats as PP suggested. I would be afraid of stink issues too!

I went ahead and ordered the intro offer on the small Sandy's - 1 cotton, 1 bamboo (with 1 sm cover and 1 med!). Having liked them for two other kids at older ages I figured this is a fairly safe bet.
Still deliberating over the Crickett's. They fit my budget requirements (ie frugal), but I've heard there are issues with them becoming stiff and scratchy (had that with other hemp diapers).
Bamboozles are also on my list, but they are a bit pricier!
