I am very interested in all the aspects of eating traditional foods and I've been reading about Weston Price's ideas online. I'm just curious if and what you've noticed that has changed about your body or even mentally since you've starting eating traditional foods?

What have you noticed since going TF?

The biggest effect for me has been on my fertility, actually. I have PCOS and cycles that would last for months on end. It took several years and Clomid for me to conceive the first time. Since going TF, I finally have normal cycles for the first time in my life and was able to conceive quite easily.
I also finally lost that last little bit of baby weight that I had a lot of trouble losing (while never having to be hungry or deprived!)
I also used to get colds all the time, but now I pretty much never get sick. My kids almost never get sick anymore either, even when they're around other sick kids, which has been awesome!
The last big change I've noticed has been in my skin. I've had bad skin pretty much since I hit puberty. I've actually had compliments on my skin for the first time in my life since going TF. A friend from college posted some old pics on Facebook the other day, and I was kind of shocked to realize that my skin looks better now, fifteen years later, than it did when I was 18--much more radiant!

I second the skin. I've really dived into TF over the past month and am putting more effort into it. I'm not totally all traditional foods yet, but I do the best I can, and I have definetly noticed an improvement in the skin. I have less acne on my face(I think I'm on the verge of clearing up, finally!), my skin is not as dry and flaky(what a contradiction, I know) and I'm not plucking chin hairs out like a monkey picking out bugs anymore.
I feel happier and calmer. This is coming from someone who has suffered severely from anxiety and depression. I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel as I progress with this diet. So far
. Of course, who wouldn't be happy after eating what I had for dinner tonight. Lots of butter, and potatoes and cheese. Had my greens too:-) I've really noticed myself laughing and smiling more.
I'll be honest, it isn't all easy to begin with. And some of the things might seem/sound odd at first. But the food really is so much better. It's really nice when you can sit around the dinner table with your family and enjoy a good meal that you know is going to nourish them.

I have moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. Two years ago I went on some very strong medications to deal with it, and still wasn't feeling well. I was losing weight in an alarming way and in pain nearly all the time, and anemic due to chronic intestinal bleeding. Anyway, my two years on a truly CLEAN diet has allowed me to go down to only a moderate dose of one mild medication, and I am feeling entirely well almost all the time. I've gained thirty pounds, which sounds alarming, but it's actually landed me right at a healthy target weight for somebody of my height and body type-- I was a rail before. My intestinal bleeding has stopped completely and I have no signs of anemia anymore. I am also enjoying beautifully clear skin with the use of no "skincare" products other than clean filtered water and pure soap, and my seasonal allergies have improved significantly. I am able to sustain my energy levels throughout the day, without the afternoon slump I experienced for years and thought was normal, and I do it without abusing caffeine either.

When im eating correctly lol, i notice that, of course, i dont experience sugar crashes during the day because what ive eaten sustains me until the next meal (no real need for snacking all day). Since drinking raw milk, my PMS symptoms have all but disappeared and just general stomach upsetness has gone away. My husband's GERD has gotten way better. Hmm, what else...skin feels better, hair feels better...i just have a general sense of well-being.

We have only been doing TF for about three weeks, and not 100% at that (I'm trying to use up other foods in the house - most things I can't justify just throwing away). But in those three weeks, I feel like my skin has improved, I have better focus, and I don't need caffeine nearly as much (and I don't actually want it a lot of days - I was drinking about 3 cups of coffee every morning). Plus, I feel like I am feeding my family foods that are truly nourishing them and that are completely in line with what I believe about food and the power it has over our health. We were eating almost completely whole foods before, and our diet was good, but something about TF really clicks with me and makes so much sense. I just feel good about TF all around.

I love reading threads like this! I'm not really totally TF, but I'm always trying to be better. I notice a lot of you have said your skin has improved. That's one reason I'm trying to get a bit more serious about TF lately, my skin has been awful over the past year and now I have a lot of acne scarring. I hate it! So what aspects of TF do you think are best for skin? Is it mostly just the fats, or the way of eating in general? Lately I've decided to go sugar and grain free and I know that helps my digestion sooooo much, but I don't know what would help my skin the most. Thanks!

Personally, with the skin issue, I think my skin has improved because of the good fats and the lack of sugar/processed foods I have been eating since starting TF. Also, I have been drinking quite a bit of kombucha and water kefir and I think (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) that they help your body detox, leading to less acne. I love threads like this too!

Interesting thing--- My brother has severe Chrones disease. He's had major surgery and ended up on a 5,000 calorie a day diet. He's very skinny. He and I used to both be very skinny, but I got married, had kids, and I'm now 70 lbs. heavier. Anyway, I digress...
Something interesting my brother mentioned to me recently is that the more calories he ate the more weight he seemed to lose. The less he ate the more he gained (or probably more like the less he lost). I'm betting his increased diet is a lot more of a TF diet. I know he eats a lot of heavy cream and fatty meats. Interesting to consider.
I'm new here and have been quietly moving my family towards TF (shhhh... don't tell DH!) and I've lost about 10 lbs in the last few months. However I've also had two major surgeries which certainly accounts for at least some of it, LOl (adeno-tonsillectomy and emergency appendectomy both in less than 7 weeks!). I am introducting TF and so far the weight keeps s l o w l y going down. As long as it's not up, right?!
