I was in an abusive marriage for nearly 3 years, untill I finally left. At that time, it felt like if I stayed in the relationship I'd die (or at least my soul would). After I left, it was really hard. I was broke (both my heart and my bank account), got really depressed, even thought about suicide. We live in a small town, and it seemed that there were no single guys that weren't either drunks, drugees, too old for me, or things like that. I tried Match.com, but I lived in too small of a town to meet anuyone close by. I felt really lonely, but never lost hope that there was someone here for me.
Last September (almost 2 years after leaving ex-husband), I received an email from an aquaintance telling me that our common friend Z. (whom I always liked) was separated from his wife and getting a divorce. Soon after that, Z. made a Facebook friend request, and we started posting comments on each other's statuses, chatting, etc. He has chickens and would bring me eggs every friday, on his way to pick up his 6 years old daughter (my ds is almost 5 now). Ds and I went over for a sweat lodge on his ranch in the fall, and slowly got to know each other more.
Ds and I went to spend NYE over at Z.'splace, and Z. and I kissed the next day. We've been a couple since. He is an amazing guy who treats me with lots of respect and love. He is kind, patient, and one of a kind. He is a cowboy who does yoga and grows his sprouts, has tattoos under his plaid shirt, doesn't drink but doesn't mind if I want to have a few glasses here and there, listens to punk rock and is into Buddhism, and I could go on and on. I never thought I'd ever meet anyone like him, and I am so in love!
To you newly single mamas out there, don't lose hope. There is someone for you, you just need to believe it, be patient, and work on yourself untill you meet your amazing guy!
