My Baby screams right before falling asleep

Ds is 10 mos and although sleeping longer stretches (thank the stars) he still needs to be on me to fall asleep, and as he is drifting off he cries screams and yells. He HATES to fall asleep. It's sortof reminiscent of colic, but madder. I sing to him, and sometimes even echo his noises back to him which--oddly enough--have actually seemed to help him let go more quickly. It's really strange. Anyone else have similar experience with your older babe hating falling asleep?

when i was working in a child dev center, one of my primary babies (same age) did this. she would be closing her eyes, totally drifting off, then "WHhhaaaa!" and kick and roll and do whatever she could, then suddenly pass out.

My third son does this. He just needs to get those cries out before falling asleep, for some reason unknown to me.

Yep. If mine doesn't fall asleep nursing, he will fuss and fight about 50% of the time. Naps are the worst, but usually he nurses to sleep.

My son does this too. I was reading Sleepless in America and the author says that for some kids the transition from wake to sleep is very bumpy. She described the fussing before sleep as a characteristic of an intense sleeper.
