Need help with latch

Thread Starter
My baby was born Friday night. Milk is in. She has a great suck and the right side seems to be ok. Some soreness with latch on but not toe curling like the left side. Now on the left side I am having some cracking and a little bleeding and it is getting more painful. So, much so that I am avoiding that side. Should I keep avoiding that side or try to keep getting her to have a better latch on that side?

Thanks,
Lisa

How are you holding her to feed? Across your chest (cradle or cross-cradle) or in the football hold? If you hold her across your chest on the right, I would try football hold on the left - mimicking the right side.

If you absolutely can't feed on that side because of the pain, I would definitely pump to keep up/stimulate supply and find a good lactation consultant to help you with the latch.
