My general rule of thumb is to buy almost all organic produce. My son loves lunchmeat ham. I can't afford organic, but can afford the nitrate free, more natural version. That is the best I can do. Things that are specifically for my lo I try to buy organic. Other than that, I don't buy packaged processed foods as a general rule (with some occasional exceptions, I'm not perfect!) I try my best to make everything from scratch. The closer something is to being a whole food...I'll go for it. No GMOs(the best I can), artificial flavors/coloring, MSG, HFCS, yucky additives/preservatives, etc...I steer clear of. I feel like a creeper when I'm at the grocery store going up and down some aisles reading all of the labels, and then not buying any of the things because none of them are free of all bad stuff!
I wish we could afford to buy more organic dairy (cheese/milk, etc), eggs and meat, but it is just too expensive. We are looking into buying from a local farmer to make it more affordable. We don't drink much milk, so that isn't too big of a problem to get organic once and a while. I do get organic yogurt, but not cheese...we eat alot of cheese.
