Has anyone conceived while losing weight?

Hi, ladies. I'm in an unusual situation because i'm 12 weeks post-partum and am thinking about trying to get pregnant in the next month or so. I sadly lost my sweet daughter at 41 weeks in January due to unknown causes. Although I am still dealing with the heartbreak, I am eager to get pregnant again. But i've been struggling to lose my pregnancy weight. It just hung on for so long after her birth. It didn't help that my milk came in, because I think my body wanted to be sure I didn't need the extra weight before it was willing to let it go. I have another 10-15 pounds to lose and it's coming off well... at a couple of pounds a week, but that also feels so slow sometimes.

Of course, the ideal would be to lose it first and then start trying. But if any of you reading this have lost a baby, you know how strong that desire is to get pregnant again soon. I'm tired of waiting. I've "patiently" waited the 3 months my doctor recommended, and now i'm ready. I thought i'd be holding my baby right now.

So my question is.. is there anyone out there who conceived while actively losing weight? I'm just wondering if the body would allow a pregnancy to occur if it was in the losing-weight mode. Does the body see that as a less than ideal situation in which a pregnancy can occur, as there may not be adequate food available for the fetus? I obviously know i'd have to stop losing once pregnant.

I'm not at all worried about not getting adequate nutrition, as i'm eating really really well... all whole foods and vegetables at every meal. I'm simply watching my portions and exercising a lot, but i'm being very careful about eating a really well-balanced array of foods. If it looks like I can't get pregnant while losing weight, i'll just stop losing because getting pregnant is more important to me. I'm within a normal range (my BMI is normal weight) but i'm just heavier than i usually am and heavier than I believe is really ideal and healthy for me. I'd love any feedback from anyone who's been in a similar situation.

I am not an expert of any sort by any means, but if you think about it, plenty of women conceive whenthey arent trying too. So they may be actively working out or playing sports or what not. I dont think your body makes that kind of distinction because even if you are consciusly dieting, your body doesn't know you are. You will still ovulate, so you can still get pregnant. I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck TTC and keep us updated. Please keep in mind these are just my opinions.

I was losing weight before this pregnancy and have continued to lose weight after getting pregnant. My midwifes exact reaction was: Thats good!

But I do have quite a few pounds to spare (was starting to reach an unhealthy range)

She says my body will give baby everything it needs first, then give me everything I need... so if it has to take energy from fat its going to me not to baby. Baby is the priority.

The only way I see it interrupting conception is if you are losing SO much weight SO fast that you are no longer ovulating.

When I conceived DS I was on the South Beach Diet. (also was trying, and was going to acupuncture and exercising). So it worked for me. I am ttc again while also trying to lose weight. I think you can do both safely as long as you are eating enough. My ob.gyn last time said that he had heard of many women getting pg while trying to lose weight, since it just makes you healthier, as long as you are eating your veggies and fruits and getting enough, not starving yourself.
