Uterus measuring really small

I'm 18 weeks tommorow and my fundal height is only 13. I know they usually start measuring at 20 weeks but that is only two weeks away shouldn't it be catching up and closer to 18? 5 inches seems like a pretty big difference. I thought 2-3 weeks off was ok. What about 5? My OB said it was perfect and no worries. I am worrying a little.

you mean cm, not inches.. right? the weeks are suppose to match up with cm..

if your OB says its fine, i'd say its fine, i've always heard that measurments are not accurate until 20 weeks.. though they are for some people, they aren't for everyone.. have you heard the baby's heartbeat?

Yes I meant cms oops. We did hear the baby's heartbeat but I'm not feeling movement yet. He did hear the baby moving on doppler though.

and since you have heard the heartbeat all should be fine!

Until the uterus is large enough to really be felt well from the outside, its probably not large enough to push against the muscles that are holding it in (it wont squish baby! promise!) That isn't to say that it is really only 13cm but rather it could be much larger than that BUT part of it is still down inside of the pelvis, making it appear smaller than it is.

I really wouldnt worry at all, at my last appointment mine was already measuring above my bellybutton... and I was only 16 weeks at the time! (but no twins, we have already checked) we can all measure differently and really after 20 weeks all they are watching for is its growth rather than its actual measurement... you may always measure several weeks back but as long as it is growing a normal amount there should be no reason at all to worry

Also if by any chance you have a retroverted or tilted uterus, it will sometimes measure small until it pushes all the way forward which can take until 20+ weeks.

I have this and am speaking from experience here...lol. Often times a full bladder will help it right and then when it's empty it will fall back again.
