Growing veggies in containers

I would love to grow some of my own veggies. I live in an apartment and have a 4 foot by 2 foot garden, buuuuuuuuuuuut, they spray at the complex. I don't want to risk growing anything and having the spray get onto it. I do grow some herbs, but never use them due to the spray. I was thinking of hitting up my parent's yard. Now, my mom has a major flower addiction (needs and intervention, really, but so do I) and has no room in her beds for veggies. I was thinking of setting up some pots in her yard. The yard is part shade in some areas and full sun in others. What veggies and herbs (and fruit bushes, maybe?) do well in pots? I'm in Southeast Pennsylvania and we're in zone 6.

There's a container and small garden thread on here somewhere...last year we had great luck with peas, carrots, blueberries, lettuce, and strawberries in our containers.

Check out my thread... http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=1200660

I've also got the 2008 & 2009 thread tied in. Lots of good stuff in there.

Sweet 100 tomatoes always do great for me in a hanging basket. Love to just pop them in my mouth as I wander by. I've also had luck with cherry bomb peppers, chard, kale, and herbs.
