first timer - warm weather wrap shopping

I have been looking at some of the lightweight wraps on etsy and they state that they are not stretchy. The ones I have seen that are stretchy seem to be heavier. Is it OK to carry a newborn+ in a non stretchy wrap? I made one out of t-shirt material and have been practicing with my JRT but it is awfully heavy fabric. I am due in May and I don't want myself and the kid to sweat to death.

I am also looking at an Ergo sport with the infant insert for my husband.

I have a friend who carries her newborn (well, now she's 4 months) in non-stretchy wraps. She's proven to me that it's absolutely possible.

I had a homemade t-shirt material one when ds was newborn, too, though, and loved it. I never felt like it was too hot, and I used it in the summertime.

Ya know, the more I think about it, I think I was using the t-shirt material wrap in more like March and April. So I guess I can't really say if it was too hot or not. We had started using our Ellaroo by the time we hit summer, I guess....
