I've been running off and on. 2-3 times a week, with a few weight lifting/aerobics classes/yoga classes thrown in occasionally. Haven't really lost any weight (I need to lose about 40 pounds to be a healthy weight).
I ran in a relay run, and my leg was 5.2 miles. Longer than my usual runs by about 2-3 miles! but it was a fun run, and I had a good time doing it.
Three days later, I notice that I have an "extra kneecap" on my right knee. It's squooshy but not painful. Worse after a day on my feet, almost gone after a night's rest.
I haven't run since the fun run (8 days ago) in hopes it would get better, but it hasn't at all. I've had several long, 14 hour days a work since then, though (I'm a nurse on a busy medical floor).
One of our docs looked at it and told me it was bursitis. A little heat and ibuprofen was what he recommended. Any other recommendations?
Should I run easy or not run at all? Should I wear a knee brace? Should I stay away from any weight bearing exercises? Will it go away on its own, or at what point should I seek some sort of more aggressive treatment? What are the long-term implications of bursitis? What are some holistic, less aggressive means of treating this?
Thanks ladies (and any gentlemen!)!
