Reeve's at the hospital

oh boy...how do you guys handle this? i can't put reeve down cause he won't stay asleep!

anyways. we are checked into the hospital because reeve's legions on his underarms, butt and groin concern the doctor and me. it looks like when babies don't dry out in their armpits and it gets that white stuff sometimes...well this stuff if yellow and it's irritated and stuff as well. the one on his butt looks worse but is much smaller. they are thinking it could be a skin infection (staph??) and of course if that gets to deep it could get into his blood. when we were at the pediatricitions office they had mentioned doing abx right away but after having a billion docs look at him here they are going to do the cultures (already taken a few hours ago) and watch him overnight. they'll see what the results are in the morning and if it's positive for infection then abx if not then we'll get some cream stuff to help it heal quickly and be on active alert but sent home.

apparently there's stickers all over our door cause of infection. we're being doubly seen by infectious diseases docs as well.

reeve's crying again. damn wires! ugh...my back hurts from this chair.

OH NO! I'm so sorry, Danielle. You and Reeve will be in my prayers.

I'm so so sorry to hear that. Your poor little man.

I know its so tough, especially the sleep part. Hopefully this all clears up very quickly.

Keep us posted; I'll be saying a prayer for Reeve tonight.

My DS had staph. It was ugly and hurt him a lot, but it rarely gets serious enough to get into the blood. Glad you're in good hands, and get some pillows for that chair!

new plan is to just watch him to see what it looks like in the morn. good cause no uneeded abx but bad cause its a waste of time.

Thinking of you both! Ask for some extra sheet or balnkets to prop yourself up in the chair in a better way.

I hope you get some productive news soon!

Prayers for Reeve! Definitely ask about sucrose. They used it and a paci (or nurse's gloved finger when she couldn't wake me & didn't want to give an artificial nipple to a bf baby w/o mom's ok) to put ivs in her scalp and feet. It helped keep her calm.

Thinking of both of you.

Hope you can get comfortable, too!

well we managed to get through the night pretty well! laid down the chair bed and at least i'm not pg...cause i woulda died sleeping in it. actually got sleep though and reeve slept from 10-4 and they bugged me 2x between then that he needed fed (he was fed at 8). like yeah sure...i'll wake him up and let him suck on YOUR boob.

no cultures back yet. gram stain looked clear. looks like it's likely he has very sensative skin and we'll get some cream however BF thinks they are going to make us stay as long as possible since we're on state insurance and of course they'll pay! i want to get out of here today. i'm feeling much more confident that he doesn't have a real infection or staph or strep (haha see you can't prepare for everything with vax's ...sorry had to do it).

i unplugged him from the monitors this morn to feed him since the doc woke him up bright lights and all...no one mentioned a thing. if they had then they can be more considerate of me doing the hard work and i'll be more considerate of their machines!

and i get optimistic and then reality comes down.

its strep a
so we'll be starting iv abx and doing blood tests. also need to take the other kids to the dr cause he had to get it from somewhere. ds1 has had allergys for weeks but could be masking a sore throat. not sure when i'll be able to do this!

The positive here is that you know what it is and can do something about it now. You have a game plan.

Good luck, mama.

I'm sorry you got bad news about it being strep A, but at least it's being treated now and I hope everyone is home soon.

i'm glad to know what it is. glad that its very treatable too. very worried about HOW he got it. oddly enough my mom says the hospital and she told a friend simply that he had it and knew he had been born in the hospital and they said HOSPITAL too. which i am not counting out as an option. i do hope ds1 doesn't have it....

he looks very jaundiced to me. so far nurses commented but haven't been told that it needs to be checked. he got his iv in and i cried more than he did. he held onto my finger for dear life and closed his eyes and sucked hard on the pacifier. they did give me sugar water for him which helped. he did so well. he actually fell BACK asleep while they were taping up his arm and stuff! they did have to do 2 sticks though. one for the iv and one for blood draw.

i wish i had a ring sling or something so that when i do hold him i can cinch him to me instead of trying to keep him up straight. my moby is way to much material to deal with plus all the wires and now the iv.
