Toddler limping-off and on

My ds was jumping on bubble wrap in Dec and fell and hurt his foot. We went to an orthopedic surgeon who but a boot on him because he thought there might be a fracture......after 3 weeks, we would take the boot off and he would walk fine for a few days and then wake up limping again. We ended up with 9 weeks in the boot. He was fine for a month and then started limping again around Easter (we've had 3 xrays and blood work taken, everyone fine)........he limps mainly in the morning and evening.....and today we figured out that it was his knee that hurt, not his ankle like usual. Anyone experienced this? We have an MRI and an appt with a rheumatologist but they can't see us until June.......any ideas on what would cause this? He also gets strange bumps on his legs that started around the time of the injury and usually appear when he is limping.......the dr said it looked like chicken pox.

Does the boot rub anywhere? My nephew limps sometimes and my sister finally figured out he has a rash between his toes that hurts. Does the skin irritation hurt? Maybe it hurts to bend/straighten his leg because his skin is sore? Good luck mama, hope the docs can give you some answers!
