And not just his bottom... his crotch, and his thighs halfway to his knees. My first thought is always allergic reaction, but he hasn't had any new foods in almost a week, and not even any solids since Saturday. So then my next thought is that the diarrhea he's had the last day is irritating it, but the area on his thighs shouldn't be red. He's also teething, and I've heard red bottom can be associated with that...
So many things to choose from, and no idea what to do about it. It is bothering him somewhat - the area right near his anus is kind of scaly - which I have to guess is from the diarrhea. And he definitely shows sensitivity when I'm wiping him in that area only. The rest of it doesn't seem to bother him, but it is BRIGHT red. I've tried powdering him, I've tried fleece liners in his dipe, I've tried covering him with oil (coconut). He's been coverless all day today and yesterday (cover at night, of course) - I'm tempted to try diaperless, but the idea of cleaning up diarrhea is not appealing.
What else can I try? Any ideas on cause?
