Bit of background -- 3 1/2 yo DD has never been a good sleeper. If she sleeps through the night 2 nights in a week, we do a happy dance. Usually she's up once or twice. Sometimes, she screams for me and throws a major fit if I'm nursing DS, or if DH tries to help. Sometimes, she just wakes quietly, comes into our room, and wants me to go lie down with her in her bed.
But I've noticed something strange: on the mornings after she DOES sleep through the night, she is a major cranky pants. (Even more so than usual in the mornings.) Last night, she went to bed after much protest around 8:45 and woke up around 7 am. I was so happy to get a decent night myself -- except for DS's nursing, of course -- but as soon as she woke I realized she was extremely cranky.
I have usually attributed this to low blood sugar, so I always get her something to eat right when she wakes up, but that shouldn't be any different whether she woke up in the night or not, right? She doesn't eat when she wakes.
Not that I would ever encourage her to wake up at 11 and 2, but when she does, mornings are noticeably more pleasant for everyone.
Anyone have any ideas about why the might be happening?
