New in Maryland

Hello - I am Dawn and I have an almost 1 year old son, Sean (4/27/09). I live in Maryland with my husband, son and two dogs. I look forward to chatting with other moms on this website.

I am trying to find a health provider that I can address my endometriosis concerns with. I also had a caesarean section and would prefer someone that is VBAC friendly, although I am not currently pregnant, but want more children. I am open to meeting with a naturopath or holistic provider. I am in the Frederick area. I have checked out the Tribe board for my area and posted a note but received no responses. Does anyone know where I could find some resources for locating a provider?

Thanks,
Dawn

Have you talked to the ICAN chapter in Maryland?

Hi Dawn, I'm in western MD. Hiya

Regarding OB offices in the area and FMH, neither is that VBAC happy. It has been doable for some people but you certainly have to have you wits about you and watch for the usual suspects such as the ole 'bait and switch' and "your baby is HUGE, time to do a ERC" I would not describe any of the local offices as consistantly good and FMH is well known to be hostile at some peoples attempts to be 'left alone to labor'...... not that you wouldn't be able, just that there seems to be nothing consistant in the county. (midwives are not even allowed to work in the hospital even if some offices use them for pre-natals)
Many local people have had good births from traveling to Shady Grove and other such places nearer the cities but I can't recall who because there are so many, contact ICAN of Baltimore or N VA for those locations.

Have you tried the MW based groups in Hagerstown? That might be a good option for you. Overall I think YOU should call around and get it from the horses mouth because things do change, THEN ask about a specific doc or practice and I thnk you will get more response. I don't think there is a "Great VBAC doc in the area"with great clarity- like you ask- so that may be why you get no response.

Good luck, I hope you joined http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ICANofwesternMD/

Hi Dawn! I'm originally from MD too. Glad you found the site. Check back in on your Tribal Area after a while, and check out the VBAC and other Birth and Beyond threads, too!

Thanks to everyone for their welcomes! I have attended an ICAN Baltimore meeting and made some connections. I am fairly certain that for any future births I won't be going to FMH and will definitely have a doula. I think I will need to call around and get information directly from the providers. I just read some articles that quoted a doctor I saw in January for my yearly and I won't be going back to see him. I didn't realize how against VBACs he is!
Thanks again
