worried about DVT

Thread Starter
I'm 9 weeks along with my first, and have been mostly bedridden for the past 3 weeks due to severe nausea. Since yesterday evening I've developed some pain deep in my left calf that's not relieved by stretching, heat, etc. It's not severe, but it's persistent and quite noticeable. No swelling or discoloration. Should I be concerned about deep vein thrombosis, what with all the inactivity? Do I call the midwives or wait it out?

I appreciate your input!

Do you have a history of DVT or clotting issues either yourself or in your family? Or varicose veins pre-pregnancy? If your instinct says that DVT might be what's going on, then you should talk to a HCP about it asap.

Another idea - is your nausea causing you to get dehydrated? Pregnant women can dehydrate much faster than others and it is a real risk if you are vomiting. I was hospitalized a few weeks ago for for it. An early sign of dehydration can be muscle cramps (such as charlie horse). Could that be what you are experiencing? Stretching wouldn't help if what you are feeling is the lingering pain that follows a spasm.

I seem to recall some other muscle pain symptom related to preganancy nausea and hyperemesis gravadarum but the details are escaping me. Hope someone else can jump in with more info.

No matter what it might be, if you are worried call your midwives.
