Teens and You Tube

My 13. y.o. dd has asked if she can open a You Tube account. She just wants to share stuff with her friends, and I trust her to be sensible and tell me if she encounters any problems. My concerns are privacy and the possibility of creepy people leaving creepy comments. Dd has said that she could make the account private, but what is the level of privacy? I told her I would try to find out more, so please share what you know. TIA!

YouTube isn't a social networking site. My kids use it to watch music videos and really stupid comedy.

It seems like a complete waste of time to me, but pretty harmless.

Oh, I know. I use it myself to watch various things. My dd wants to put up her own videos (for example, of herself riding horses). That's where my concerns about privacy come from. Can the account be set up so that only people she gives permission to can access/comment on her videos? If so, is it really, truly private?

I guess my questions are more about technology than teens, but I figured there must be other parents who've faced this issue. Everyone here seems to be way more clued in on technical stuff than I am!
