Is there a trend with water breaking (for moms of more than 1...)

With DS they broke my water during pushing... with DD my water broke just before I got to the pushing stage...

is this likely to hold true with this one as well that my water will likely not break until I am already in quite active labor? I guess I could Google it too but I also want some actual experiences from you ladies.

i always had the impression that your waters always break before labor but in reality i think it happens lot less than 50% of the time.

My waters didnt break with any three of my labors till very close or after pushing.
My son came out with all of his waters, even though my midwife had tried to break my waters after 20 hours of labor. with my next birth, My waters broke as i was pushing out my daughters head.. it was the most intense thing i have ever experienced..and then i broke the waters of my 3rd dd as her head was crowning.

My midwife has me taking extra vitamin C to avoid PROM... which I am not complaining about... but really with this track history do I even have a risk of PROM?

By your experience, I would guess not really.

Labor #1 started with my water spontaneously breaking while I was sleeping at 39+5. Labor was 4.5 hours from water breaking to delivering. Labor #2 started with contractions 10 minutes apart at 41+1, was 18 hours long, and I asked my midwife to break my water just before I started pushing. (I think having it broken in my first labor and not in my second was giving me a mental hang up about "letting go" and moving the baby out). I preferred the water-breaking-spontaneously-labor and am hoping for that again this time. Interestingly, I had a very minor amount of water in both pregnancies, once it was released, I am guessing less than a cup (I don't know what a normal amount is, but you always hearing of "gushing" stories). I bet if I was seeing a regular OB they would have forced induction due to "not enough fluid". Both of my sons were fine with no health problems whatsoever. DS2 did have a true knot in his cord.

Both of mine water broke late. Dd in late pushing, ds the forewater broke in late pushing, main water didn't break until he was born- entirely in the caul.

I had arom around 6cm I think with dd1 and they broke spontaneously around 7cm with dd2.

#1 and #2 were the same: My water broke and my labor began.

#3 My water broke as she came out! (I actually didn't believe I was in labor initially because my water hadn't broken yet, )

I only had two births but my dd water was broken by the OB during labor and my ds was broken by the OB right before he came out so it wouldn't splash. He would of been born in the bag of water and maybe my dd too. My mom's broke before labor with all 3 of her kids.

From what I have read, in most cases (if left alone) the water will break towards the very end or as the baby is being born (or in a few lucky cases baby is born in the caul). Usually somewhere around 8 or 9 centimeters or transition the water breaks, and then mom usually gets pushy. So I would say your chances of the water breaking at the end are much higher than them breaking in the beginning or before labor starts, just because that is how it happens most of the time. I have heard that a lot of times when the water breaks before labor starts, that means the baby was not positioned well when labor started. A lot of times breach babies water breaks before labor begins.

With all my births, my bag was "bulging" and was manually broken.
With DD1 my water was manually broken at 5cm (40w4d), which was about 12 hours after labor began. And with DD2 it broke at 39w5d. A day and a half later I still had no contrx and labor was started with pit. With DD1 when the Dr tried breaking it he commented on how strong it was. I took Vit C and everything the second time around (RRL, the works) and I am not sure why my water broke and labor didnt kick off. I would have given it more than a day and a half had I not been GBS+, but after nothing natural worked, we went on in.

I am curious to see what happens this time.

With all 4 of my previous pregnancies the doctor had to break my water. I am really hoping it will break on it's on this time, would be nice to experience that, but with my past record I'm not holding my breath.

My experience, having had one of each, is the only real difference is that no one had their hand between my legs when it happened on its own. It still feels the same.

(ETA oh and you dont expect it. You dont get a... hey your waters about to burst. Its just this sudden feeling like someone burst a water balloon between your legs... but in both cases it made me feel sick to my stomach)

#1 was broken by my GP after I'd been in labor 24hrs and was at 3cm. Born 3hrs later
#2 was broken by OB during active labor and I was 6.5cm. Born 3hrs later
#3 was broken by CNM during late active labor at 9.5cms very little fluid, with mec. Born an hour later
#4 1st uc broke spontaneously in late active labor about an hour b4 pushing
#5 2nd uc baby born fully in the caul, I had to break the bag
#6 3rd uc broke spontaneously durling early active labor, trickled throughout. born 6hrs later
#7 our 4th planned UC: due 5/16. Letting nature work her magick in her own way in her own time as with the last 3.
I absolutely prefer letting my waters break when they are ready rather than having AROM!

I think it's probably true for a lot of people.....For me it was.

With dd1 I was induced and they broke my water in early labor so that doesn't count but with both dd2 and ds it broke only minutes before their heads were born.

Also, my SIL has had 3 dd's and her water broke with each one in VERY early labor.

My m/w told me I could take 1 emergen-c packet a day to boost my immune system during a cold with dd2 and she said I could continue to take it if I wanted because it would also help strengthen my BOW. I haven't actually done the research but I think it's been proven. ? I didn't have dd1's birth to compare (I didn't take any extra vit-c with her but did with my last 2) but it seems to be true.

I've been wondering the same thing and haven't looked to see if there's a definitive answer. DD1, water broke 7 hours before 1st contrx. DD2 water broke w/ a contrx, but didn't have another for 20 min or so and didn't have regular, noticeable ones for an hour.

in all 3 births my water did not break until pushing - FWIW in bradley childbirth class with #1 the teacher actually said your prenatal nutrition effected the stength of the bag.
