Son is peeing very frequently

My son has peeing very often more than he was b4. I have noticed is yells alil when he pees like it hurts and so i checked it the end /foreskin is red but then goes away a lil later. Today we went to play group and he went 3 times to pee in the 2.5hrs we were there he did drink a lot of fluids but wasn't expecting him to go 3 times while we were there. Well we got home and i noticed alil dry blood in his underwear but the end of his foreskin is no longer red and i asked him if it hurts he says no. Should I be worried?

If he says it doesn't hurt I wouldn't worry . How old is he ? Sometimes boys can pee alot and your like going what the heck when they are peeing nearly alot during the day .

Did it just happen just today or is it more days ?

My son can end up having a couple days of peeing alot and then be back to just a few times asking if he went potty .

With boys peeing sometimes they end up shouting during peeing sessions for some nutty reason as if they are play spray shoots in the water going Yaaaaaaaaa or Powie ! Squeal with laughter or eeeeeeeeeee

He just went pee again and there was a lil blood in the toilet like a drop or 2 and then checked the opening of his foreskin and its red inside like its blood. I asked if it hurt he said no but that was his 2nd time peein in 20 mins and it wasnt alil pee good amount. He is 4. Had a prob a few months back were his whole penis was swollen and the forskin was tight around it it hurt him bad then took him to the docotors then the er er doc told me he had balanatis and that i need to retract his skin never did. He did give him antibiotics after a urine sample. Dont want to take him to the doctor again they just seem to tell me he will need to be circusiced or i need to retract his foreskin back.

Sounds like he is going through the process of natural separation/retraction. Here is a thread to read http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732 and see if it looks like that is what is going on.

The swelling a few months back was probably the start of natural retraction and now he is having more. He is the age we see a lot of posts like this one. From what you wrote it seems you know that retraction is a big but wanted to reinforce that. The Dr. are 100% wrong in telling you to retract and no one but your ds should ever mess with his foreskin by retracting it.

He is still ballooning when he pees. He doesnt like me watching him pee anymore so i have to be sneaky about it pretend im washing my hands or something while he pees. The blood stopped and seems to be back to normal no more redness at the end of his foreskin. I would ask my husband since he is not circumsiced either but he has no clue or remembers anything from when he was little. Plus he is in a diff state right now military stuff. Ill just keep an eye on his fireman like cartman in southpark says when they want to chop off ike's fireman at a bris.

Ballooning is a sure sign that retraction has taken place and still going on and it is totally normal. Unless he starts complaining of pain I wouldnt give it another thought.

Im going to have to take him in today to the doctor. He just got up to pee but didnt really pee it was a mix of blood and urine. He winced like it burned to pee the lil amount he did.

Sounds like he may have a UTI. Whatever you do dont allow the Dr. to retract him in any way. It can cause more problems and show nothing. Request a culture as well to see if there is any bacteria or yeast growing there.

Took him in got an appt and they took a urine sample and told me he shouldnt be getting uti's that only girls get them. She asked me if i have been pulling back his foreskin back slowly during his bathtime so he can get retractedI said now. So now they are sending us to a urologist. She said he needs to be retracting or he is going to be prone to uti's for the rest of his life. They gave us antibiotics which seem be working have only given him one dose and its helped a lot he hasnt peed in 2 hrs before the medicine he was peeing every 20 mins or so.

So now i dont know what to do with them sending us to the urologist and what they're going to want to do to him. So not happy right now with this.

The Dr is full of it. UTIs are much more common in girls than boys, but that hardly means that boy don't get them. All kinds of people get UTIs. Retracting during baths certainly doesn't prevent them, and many people suspect it actually may cause them.

Since UTIs are relatively rare in boys and can indicate defects of the urinary tract (such as reflux) seeing a urologist is not totally crazy. However, seeing a urologist is sometimes a risky thing with intact boys. They are often quick to recommend circ, and almost always try to retract. The urologist will almost certainly want to do a test called a VCUG that involves a catheter (if he doesn't just decide to blame the whole thing on the foreskin.) Whether a single UTI warrants the invasive test is somewhat debated.

Before you take him to the urologist you need to decide if you are up to being a strong enough advocate to protect your DS. I would also go a bit on your gut instinct about whether you think this was a isolated UTI caused by something external (such as too many bubble baths, or your DS playing with himself with very dirty hands, etc) or if you think there may be an internal problem. If you do decide to take him to a urologist, then you can post in the finding your tribe forum to find a foreskin friendly urologist in your area, or try calling DOC (Doctors Opposing Circumcision) for recommendations.

I stopped giving him bubble baths since this past novemeber he jsut get quick showers now. Only thing i might think is his dirty hands when he goes to pee thats about it. its his first time with a uti. Doctor is sending his sample in to get cultured to make sure what it is but she is treating it as a uti for now.

My husband who is intact as well has told me to retract our son and i tell him no you are not suppose to do anything to it even my mom has told me since she did that with my brother who is 4yrs old she said her doctor told her to and she did retract him. I told her as well that no not doing it.

Dont know of any doctors out here in southern california that are not for circumsicion and would be hard for me to find one since they have to be on our health ins list of docs for us to go to them.

It was standard to instruct mothers of intact boys to retract and clean regularly from the 1930's through the 1980's. It has only recently been recognized as damaging.

How could a Dr. be so misguided as to think that boys dont get UTI anyone with a urinary tract can get UTI. I am sorry you are dealing with such incompetence. I would not go to the urologist personally since they are for real issues and since this is your ds's first issue it dosnt warrant the trip IMO.

Retraction causes problems it dosnt help prevent them. Since both your dh and mom have said to retract is it possible they have been doing so without your knowledge? I would have a talk with both of them and make sure that they havnt been doing it.

Generally the boy messing with things dosnt cause issues but if their hands are dirty then it can. Just like little girls getting yeast infection from self exploration with dirty hands the same thing can happen to little boys.

I would give your ds pure cranberry juice as well for the UTI. Even if he dosnt have one it is great for the urinary tract.

You could try contacting the following for a referal to a intact friendly dr with your insurance. Maralyn Milos is even in Cali. I would imagine she could be of great help to you.

He def hasnt been retracted. Im the only one he lets give him a bath he doesnt like my hubby giving him a bath when hubby is home. My mom hasnt bathed him or a chance to retract him im always around when my mom is over or we go over to visit. My son drinks a lot of water though so it baffles me that he got a uti. I did get him larger underwear now and started having him wash his hands b4 he pees when he can hold it long enough and wash his hands afterwards since yesterday. Im always reminding him not to let his penis touch the public restroom toilets too wonder if that has anything to do with it some of the public toilets are tall and he can barely reach over. Ill have to get in contact with her and I wasnt planning on following through with the urologist even his doctor said hes healthy never has any problems b4 today.

Age 4 is a time of body exploration. Teach him not to touch his anus and then go and touch his foreskin. Anytime he wipes himself after pooping, or anytime he touches his anus, teach him that he needs to wash his hands afterwards.

Well my son no longer has blood in his urine. He woke up this morning and noticed he peed in his bed again but he did go to the bathroom to pee once he was out of bed and complained it hurt to pee again. Wonder if the antibiotic is working as its suppose to. still havent heard back about the culture on his urine sample.

Poor little guy I hope he starts feeling better soon. I hate waiting to hear back on medical test results. We are always on pins and needles waiting while they could care less it seems.

I also noticed that his had hard stools. He has always had problems with constipation since he was 2yrs old. Im going to have to start him on miralax and hope that helps since adding fiber to his diet hasnt seemed to work at all. He drinks lots of water thats all hes pretty much allowed to drink expcept for the 1 cup of juice a day i allow him to have.
