Tell me about your unvaxed child's diet please

Hi everyone, I am fairly new here but think I will be posting often...I have so many questions!

For those of you not vaxing (like me), what kind of diet do you give your child? By that I mean, I pretty much only give my 2 yo organic as much as I can. No sugar (only natural or organic), stay away from GMO, no Mcdonalds, etc. So far, thankfully, he has been very healthy. And he is an excellent eater ... lots of fruits, veggies, etc.

So, just wondering, do you do the same and what are your thoughts?

Thank you!

I try to make it as healthy as I can. From infancy he has been the world's pickiest eater - so he eats: peanut butter/sunbutter and honey/jelly/fluff sandwiches on whole wheat bread; jello cups with fruit (at least he's exposed to the fruit; pudding; today he tried Chobani Champion yogurt and liked it!; orange slices; bananas under duress. He will NOT eat veggies or most fruits. Kraft Mac and Cheese he will eat. No pizza, no meat, no nuts, seeds, etc. But, he's healthy as a horse! we did the Polio and HiB series and then stopped. Nothing else and he's strong and healthy. He had strep this year (manifested as a sandpapery rash), the various colds and flu-like illnesses, but nothing major. Once he was older and I was more secure in my non-vax stance I became calmer. I watch him when he gets sick and Google when I am concerned.

nothing organic here, simply because he will NOT eat it. (and to those mamas out there who think it's me - I eat tons of veggies, my meat, etc. He has always refused these foods and just simply will NOT eat them).

This old thread is very on-topic. There's a lot to read, it's a dense thread, but if you read, and then re-read, and then read a few more pages (that's the way I had to do it anyway) you'll learn and benefit from it.

Though FWIW, the biggest tools in my toolkit, for dealing with illness, vaccine-available or not, are nutritional supplements for acute illness, easy-to-digest foods when they're sick, like that. That's gotten me out of sticky spots where our diet, while fairly good at meeting our particular needs, takes longer to achieve such a good state of health that I don't need supps for illness.

We are the same at our house. Lots of fruits and veggies, almost all organic. I try to get protein in him but he is not really "into" meat. (I'm not either so I get it!) He will eat chicken occasionally. He won't eat fish. We try to avoid sugar and high fructose corn syrup at all costs! No dyes either. Very little preservatives of any kind. We have lots of rice, peanut butter, nuts, homemade soups. Sometimes I make homemade pizzas. He is allergic to eggs so those are out.

He is very, very healthy. He is almost 3 and has had 2 ear infections and rubella (when he was 13 months - and if he didn't have a rash I wouldn't have thought he was even sick). That's really it. Maybe one other minor cold. No digestive issues ever.

Now getting the grandparents on board with all that..so far that hasn't happened. But we try.

My daughter eats tons of high quality protein (grassfed meats, salmon- one of her favorites, raw milk, pastured eggs, greek yogurt) and lots of fruits and veggies. We avoid sugar, GMO food, corn syrup, food dyes, and refined grains, and I'm pretty strict about getting good food into her before she has the occasional treat. She also loves homemade sauerkraut and lots of other fermented stuff, which is great. We also drink lots of bone broth during the winter and if we are ill.

I also make sure she takes a high quality multivitamin, is exposed to the sun daily, and gets her cod liver oil each day.

This is us too. Any meat we eat is local and pastured, same for poultry, and only wild fish. We only do organic veggies and lots of them! Fresh fruits and healthy grains and no processed food.

DS eats cookies and cake...that I make myself from scratch with 1/4 the sweetener suggested. (We use agave mainly)

We also do a TON of outdoor time daily- rain, snow, sun

For vitamins DS takes C, D, Multi, probiotic. Can't stress the D and the probiotic enough!!!

And DS also nursed until 2.5

Since this is about nutrition/diet rather than vaccines I'm moving over to Nutrition & Good Eating.

My ds is 3.5 and dd is 16m
We haven't vaxed our l/os and their diet is dairy free vegetarian(no animal products except eggs). Only one hospitalization for ds(major stomach bug..hooked to iv over night sent home the next day). Never had anti-biotics...nothing that a little miso soup, eucaluptus oil and cuddles couldnt cure

An example menu:

Breakfast
Today was a light breakfast since we were heading out..they usually eat a HUGE breakfast
Ds had a muffin before we woke(he goes straight for the muffins before he wakes us)
Then he had an egg, lettuce, tomato, cuke sandwich on ww bread w an apple and a glass of soy milk
dd had an egg, tomato, cuke and piece of toast, and a 1/2 an apple diced, soy milk

Snack-Usually fresh fruit-blueberries/strawberries...whatevers in season OR nana brings over as a treat-today was a whole carton of strawberries(thanks to nana)

Snack 2-baked chips(we were out what can I say) and an apple juice split between them)

Lunch-today was-
Ds-2 bean burritoes w lettuce/tomato/guac and a small garden salad/fruit salad
dd had 1 bean burrito w a little salad and fruit
they split a coconut raisin cookie
Had water to drink
Snack-Homemade muffins(atleast 1 protein/2 fruits in the muffins). This week was ww/chickpea flour banana w dried blueberries, sunflower seeds and hemp seeds
Each have 1 with a bit of soy or almond milk

Dinner(tonight)-veggie gumbo w carrots, onions, peas, corn, okra, eggplant, tomatoes, homemade broth, kidney beans and rice. Sliced cukes and cherry tomatoes

Snack-air popped popcorn

Usually they eat A LOT more! Like an obscene amount more.

All non dairy milks are organic, most veg and fruit is organic when we can get it

Ds1 is a fairly decent eater... but he also like (and eats) standard kid-fare: hotdogs, chicken nuggets, cheese & crackers, chips, etc. And, yes, we goto McDonalds & Chik Fil-a and the like on occasion (a couple times a month...).

But, he also eats a good bit of fruit (he loves oranges/apples/grapes/bananas, canned peaches & pineapple), some veggies (mostly peas & green beans & corn), loves cheese and eats pb & j (on whole wheat bread - home made jelly, *I* consider it fairly healthy, although I'm perfectly aware that some folks think its junk, but whatever), whole wheat noodles, etc.

Honestly, I think nutrition is important, I do. But I also don't think its worth the stress to ensure that everything you/your child eats is 100% organic, 100% healthy, etc. I also don't think its worth the fight with your child - the explanations to both him, his friends, other moms, etc. Its just not worth it. To me. I know some (maybe most) around here will disagree. And thats fine. But the above is me. I just refuse, absolutely 100% *REFUSE* to stress over food.

ETA: Oh, and DS1 is 3 now... and has never, ever, ever been to the doctor for a "sick visit". DS2 is 8 months, and had a UTI at 2wks. He also just got over croup, which I did take him in for, though I was pretty sure what it was. Hey, at least we got a free humidifer out of it

We don't eat a special diet just because we are no vax.

DS (12mos, no vax yet) eats fairly healthy foods. Fruit or veggies at every meal, lean protein, good fats, good carbs, etc - some organic but not all. But, I also let him have baked goods with sugar & white flour - they're usually homemade. He eats processed foods - those baby puffs, baby yogurt melts, etc., but not a lot. He's still breastfeeding too. Honestly, I don't really worry about his diet as related to non-vaxing. I just try to keep him healthy in general.

I'll also let you know that I am not vaxed - 32 yrs old. I received 1 MMR shot as a baby & no more. I was raised on a diet similar to DS's - lots of homemade food, big garden in the summer. My parents did not seek out organic foods, though. I was breastfed until about 18mos. As a teen & college student, I ate more processed foods, tons of crap. Now, I eat better. I have never (knock on wood!) had a vax preventable disease (except for chicken pox, but that vax wasn't around when I was a kid anyway). I do not think about it on a daily basis & I do not base my diet on the fact that I'm not vaxed. I pretty much eat what I want - it just so happens that I know enough to want healthy food!

I hope this helps!

NON-vac - we don't do anything special, just an organic as we can diet, we feel genes play a far greater role than diet alone

I know people how eat crappy diets and lives into their 90's and vise versa, same for smoking and drinking.
