We've made the switch - but not brave enough to try nights!!

A few weeks ago we officially made the switch to cloth diapers!! I have to say that I LOVE diapering this way. My only regret is that I didn't start sooner. Buying cloth diapers has turned into a little mini addiction.

As much as I love cloth during the day, I still have not found the courage to put cloth on the baby at night. I guess I'm just afraid of major leaks, or the baby feelings soaked and waking up. We have great success during the day, but the thought of night time is really intimidating to me.

I think maybe part of the problem is that I'm not sure what kind of diaper would be best to put on the baby at night. This is what I have:

12 prefolds from GM
3 Bummis wraps
8 pocket diapers (from rainshinedesign.com)
1 BG AIO
15 microfiber inserts
6 hemp fleece doublers
3 zorb/bamboo inserts

So out of these options, what you would suggest putting on my baby at night??

What do you usually use during the day?

How long does your baby sleep at night (i.e. how long do you need the diaper to hold)?

My inclination would be to put your baby in two PFs and a Bummis cover and call it a day, but that's probably because that's what I do.

i was gonna say just do the two pfs. that always works for us. we put a wool soaker over it just in case, but don't really need it.

Normally during the day I use a pocket diaper with a microfiber insert (or 2), or a prefold with a wrap.

He sleeps about 10 hours, typically.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm just not sure if 2 prefolds would work for us - maybe I have the wrong size of prefolds, but even using one makes for a very very bulky diaper! Maybe I got the prefolds too big?

I was worried about nights too and finally did it. The 1st night, I used a fuzzi bunz with just the microfiber insert and she woke up in a puddle of pee requiring changing of everything.
But, the next night I used the same thing and added a thick cloth inside, maybe called a doubler? and she was fine!
I'm not experienced with cd but I'm happy to be rid of disposables completely now!
I keep an extra fuzzibunz on the bed also so that I can easily change her in the middle of the night with my eyes half closed.

During the day I use prefolds with a cover.

ETA...I must have big prefolds too because I could never fit 2 in a cover.

if the prefolds are on the bigger side, you may be able to just add a doubler to one and call it good. we use one brown edge gmd prefold, ando ne normal chinese prefold. it is very bulky, but definitely wont leak. lol.

We use prefolds during the day but pockets at night. We use a Fuzzi Bunz pocket with a microfiber insert and a hemp insert. My kids sleep 12+ hours a night so I like using something stay dry. We use sposies about half the time at night still, mainly when DH puts them to bed. My advice? Just try it one night! If you hate it or have leaks or anything else you don't have to keep doing it That has always been my theory on night time cloth... we do it when we do it, but if we start having issues we take a break!

I've been using cloth since Jude was about a month and just barely figured out the perfect night-time combo a few weeks ago. I use one-size bumGenius on the largest setting and stuff it with the adjustable soaker pad with two small hemp inserts (from greenmountaindiapers.com) underneath.

my youngest is 15months and he is the 1st of my 6 children that Ive CD'd. Totally wish I had done it with the others. #7 is due in 4wks though so I will soon have 2 in cloth.

My little man sleeps a good 12hrs a night straight through and is an average wetter. I put him in a 3.0 BG OS with both inserts and he wakes up dry. Admitted, the dipe weighs a ton, but we've never had a leak! I love them!

When he was smaller and didnt fit his BG's I tried to put him in 2 pf's and a cover and he'd wake up soaked halfway through the night. I did end up switching back to sposies for awhile just for night time until he fit into his BG's. We use fitteds (mutts or gm's) or blueberry minky OS pockets during the day when it's easier to change more often, but neither of them will hold us overnight, and once a baby's asleep I let 'em lie! lol

The combo that I finally found works for us is two pfs. I trifold one and put it inside the other one that I jelly roll. With a fleece liner on top of those, it keeps him from sitting in the wet all night. I tie it all on with a Disana tie nappy, and put a wool sleep sack over that (although the wool is a not really necessary - the tie nappy is usually still barely damp by morning). My guy's 7 mos and before this we were changing at least once a night.

I basically just add hemp to my regular daytime dipes for nighttime. I mostly use fitteds and covers these days, so I just add a hemp doubler and we have no leaks. When I used pocket dipes, again, I just added hemp.

DD is a heavy wetter and she has recently started side-sleeping, so sposies ALWAYS leak at night.

Using what you have I would use a prefold with two hemp doublers covered in the wrap. This is pretty much what we use except my wrap is an Imse Vimse wool wrap.

Good for you

We did too. For night I use the motherease which is a terry diaper, thick terry insert and a PUL cover.

I use 2 pf and a cover. No leaks.
