Yay, we have a house to rent!
It's a very cute, cozy little rail-worker's cottage. I have no idea of the square footage, but it's small!
What I need help with now is optimizing the space/rooms.
There is:
2 'larger' bedrooms at the front of the house (on either side of the entrance hallway). One has an open fireplace and they both have built in cupboards.
One of them needs to fit our 'family bed' (a queen and a single side by side) - which might involve a cupboard not being able to be opened, or even not being able to shut the door, but the bed is non-negotiable
2 tiny rooms further down the hallway. Both have a cupboard built in. One has no door and opens onto the living room.
The living room is open to the hallway and has a potbelly stove on one wall and built in shelves/cupboards on that same wall.
At the back of the house is (from left to right) a small shower/sink room, the kitchen a decent sized laundry nook (with sink and hose attachments for the washer) and a little separate toilet. Then the back door opens from the kitchen'laundry. The clothesline is right at the back step.
Outside is a firewood lean-to and a small outbuilding with a partition separating it into two parts. It's about the size of a large closet.
(would post photos but don't have any yet)
Our needs:
-already mentioned the bed situation
-As the kids are little and sleep with us they don't need their own rooms!
-I want the family bedroom to be just for sleeping in
-dp would like our own spaces - mine for sewing/other crafts. His for. . . nothing specific, maybe a small desk in there. One room will double as a guest room (so needs some space for a blow up mattress occasionally)
- space to dry clothes indoors is needed in the winter here (we have a folding rack)
- we often use the computer (desktop) to watch DVDs on so would like it somewhere accessible
- I'd like the kids toys & books to be where where they can be seen/heard by an adult in the kitchen/laundry (we'll also have a few books in the bedroom for bedtime)
- dp has a punching bag and would like space to use it??
- I want some kind of easy system with the clothes/cloth diapers - especially the kids - like a dresser in the laundry, one diaper bucket in the laundry and one in the bedroom for night-time changes. Somewhere I want hooks for hanging up worn, but still wearable clothes.
- need some kind of system for the door we use to go in and out - for keys, random things that get brought in, etc. The front hallway is quite small. . . )and carpeted).
- the kitchen needs more storage space as has few cupboards/shelves
furniture:
a 3 seater couch
queen, single bed
2 dresser drawers
1 cupboard unit thing
2 small bookshelves
1 large desk
1 small desk
1 coffee table (small, low square)
1 small kitchen table with 2 drop down sides
1 tall/high chair for dd
baby seat that attaches to the table
various large baskets
no chairs yet!
Thanks in advance - you have been so incredibly helpful here!!

) I guess the children's "playroom" would be the logical choice for guest room, since it is larger.
