Has anyone tried to dye their own prefolds?

Is it hard? I think it would be fun to have some nice colorful prefolds, but I can't really justify buying any more right now because I have so many. Just some nice solid colors would be nice, but tye-dye might be fun to do too, although the cool patterns at TDD look a little to complicated for me to try at home. What do you ladies think?

I didn't know there *was* a fabric and crafts board. Great! I learn something new about this place every day. I love MDC.

What kind of dye did you use? I have read that procion dye is good for dying dipes.

Yup I used procion dyes. They worked well, but I bunched it up too much, I think. I dyed a few more another time at a MDC tye dyeing party, and had better results gently squeezing the dye into the dipes. Be careful if you do this though, if you get colors together that make icky colors it can get muddy. I found if when I put the rubber bands on the prefolds I didn't do ties that were REALLY bunched up they worked a LOT better.

procion dyes from dharmatrading.com are great - i've been buying their dyes for over 10 years...great company as well...

the website has lots of directions on vat dyeing or dyeing the washing machine - i use a 3 gallon mop bucked in the tub - i find i have a lot of control over the uniformity of the color, and i don't waste a lot of dye...

tons of fun, though - i highly recommend it!
