Once a week poopers.

I have a question for you mamas (or daddies) that have/had once a week poopers when your LO was EBF. Once your babe started solids, how did it change? My son has been getting a little bit of solids for about two months now. We went back to EBF for about a week because he started to get constipated. And we just started giving him solids again several days ago. He was always a once a week pooper until we started solids and then he started to go about every two or three days, but then that stopped after a couple of weeks. We don't do rice cereal. Just fruits and veggies and the occasional piece of my food. We were told by our ped to stop feeding him yellow and orange veggies, and to stick with green ones for a while. I think it is the startch thing. So, this week... he has been eating pears, pees, spinach, cucumber, green beans, cantelope, and a little eggplant. We have also been giving him water and and ounce or two or diluted all natural apple or pear juice.

He finally pooped this morning. It had been a week since his last BM. It wasn't hard, but it was formed. He did cry and still had a little smear of blood at the end of it (probably a fissure from straining). This was happening before as well. I ordered probiotics and should be getting them any day now.
Have any of you experienced this with your LO and is there anything else I could be doing to help him??

Both of my kids have been once a week poopers, until they started solids. My DS started going daily after solids were introduced and my DD goes every 2-3 days days or so. Neither had any issues with constipation, so I don't have any help for you there..

My DS was a once a weeker until solids also. He now poops twice a day about an hour apart in the mornings. It takes a lot of BRA (bananas, rice apples) to change that. I regularly feed him oatmeal mixed with prunes and whole milk yogurt for breakfast which seems to keep him very regular. I know that if your doing BLW and no spoon feeding that might be a challenge. To make the prunes, I just stew 16-20 Trader Joes non-sorbate prunes in a cup or two of water until they are fat and hand blend.

DD is a once a week pooper too. When we started solids around 7 months old, she started pooping every 3-4 days and her poops became more solid like in consistency. She still gets 75%+ of her calories from breastmilk so I'm not sure how much the solids are affecting her frequency of bowel movements. I would make sure he gets plenty of fluids (breastmilk) and a balanced diet of non binding foods, which really varies for each person so it may take awhile for you to figure out what those are for your son.

I haven't done prunes. so I will try that. I was doing plums for a while, but I haven't made any lately. I'm not doing BLW. so. it shouldn't be a problem. As for the yogurt, DS has a dairy sensitivity or allergy and the only yogurt I eat is the So Delicious coconut yogurt. Delicious, but maybe a bit too many ingredients for him. That is why I ordered the probiotics, though. DS gets roughly around 4 TBSP of food a day and still drinks somewhere around 25 or so ounces a day of BM. I have been trying to make sure I stay hydrated as well. Hopefully, the probiotics will do the trick.

Not sure if it matters, but my husband had surgery for a hernia when he was a baby. It was from straining because he was constipated.
