Anyone use the beco w/o the insert?

Just wondering If I'm the only one who does this. My DD is now 1 and when I put her in a back carry I don't use the special Beco insert I just use it like an Ergo or other SSCs. I think its ok... any reason why I shouldn't?

My daughter is almost 14 months old and I don't use it for her either. It's only an infant insert, so I'll use it when I have a little baby again. But for toddlers, you're supposed to take the insert out (on a version 2) or just push it against the back (on a version 1).

OP, are you saying there isn't any fabric isn't between you and him?
if so, that's no good, see this photo blog:

I did that page with my 16 month old right when the butterfly came out because there was confusion on this issue and the maker clarified it is never meant to be used that way.

CChrissyy...that is great! I was wondering the same thing (pre-buying a butterfly). Now I can see the difference. I have an older 4th gen Beco that I love but I think the easy switching to the back from the front might be able to come in handy.

I have an older Beco with no insert, and I've been wearing DS in it since he was about 4 weeks old. Now he's 9.5 months and I usually do a back carry with him.
