throbbing pain and swelling in ankle

i don't think I injured it, but the swelling has been bothering me for three days now. it is accompanied by throbbing pain, especially when i stand.

I had surgery on this foot 5 years ago, but below the ankle.

anything i can do for the swelling? is this something to worry about?

any thoughts? can a swelling like this be something other than a broken bone? or with a broken bone it would not go down at night?

last night my pain was worse than usual, than it got better and i woke up to almost no swelling at all...i'm trying to rest the foot and take it easy.

I've been thinking about your post and drawing a blank.

I would rule out the symptoms of a blood clot. Just to be safe.

What about gout?

I would assume it's probably a muscle/ligament issue that maybe isn't causing a lot pain?

And eventually ask a doc about it.

thanks. i googled gout, it says "hot, red, swallen"--it is not hot or red.

muscle / ligament sounds reassuring.

I googled blood clots in foot and some symptoms are similar--gingling, swelling, trobbing--but I don't have most of the symptoms. AND this happened after I've been exercising more than usual, so it seems a blood clot would be unlikely. At least I hope so.

If it is not better in 2-3 days I will see a doctor. I think I will ice and heat it for now. I always forget about icing
