Question about posterior cervix

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a question. I was set up to be induced for labor yesterday (38 weeks) because my husband is going out of town on a family emergency and we wanted to make sure that he is around for the birth. When I went to the doc he examined me and said that the baby's head has dropped down to station 0 but has pushed back my cervix into a posterior position. As a result he is not agreeing to move forward with the induction since the bishops score is low. My hubby leaves in 4 days - I'm wondering if there is anything that I can do before then to get the cervix back into an anterior position so I can be induced? Is there a good chance that I can go into labor in the next few days with a posterior cervix? I'm still keen on having a natural birth and don't want to risk a C-section but I'd also really like my hubby to be around for the birth!

Thanks!

You *could* go into labor at any time, really. There's no way to tell. But your OB is right, induction with a low Bishop's score carries a much higher risk for a c-section. And the last thing you need to is recover from a c-section while your dh is out of town. I would be *kicking* myself if that happened b/c I chose to induce early. Also, many care providers are limiting elective induction to moms at 39 weeks or later due to the risk of late prematurity and the accompanying risks to the baby. If this is your first, your baby is far more likely to be ready to be born past your due date than this early. When will your husband return from his family emergency? Are we talking days or weeks?

hmmm, you are 38 wks? what if your dates are off and you are really only 37 wks? what if your baby happens to be one that needs 42 wks to cook? are you prepared for a baby that may potentially be 5 wks premature?

would you rather have a traumatic artifical labor ending in a crash csec with your dh there, or a normal vaginal birth without him? are the risks to your life and the life of your baby worth it to have him there?

how long will dh be gone? if this is your first, there is a good chance you still have 6 wks to go!

good for your doctor not to take a chance like that. if you are need of support during labor, its no too late to interview doulas, just in case dh isnt there.

and...i dont know just what the family emergency is, but what could be more important than being present for the birth of your child?

since your ques was about cervical positioning, you might want to try spinningbabies.com for info on how you can help your baby find the best possible position for delivery. not sure what effect those techniques would have on your cervix, but i think having the baby in the right spot will ensure the cervix is right where it needs to be for dilation. GL!

I don't know if there is anything you can do per say to get it to go back anterior but yes you can certainly go into labor on your own with a posterior cervix. My is always posterior until late into labor so it is very possible.

I agree though that you don't want to induce if your Dr. feels your body is not ready it could have unpleasant consequences.
