We are currantly wanting to switch our diets to a High Raw Organic Vegan Diet...

I know we will all go thru a MJOR DETOX!!!!! This is a family that is used to eating high processed foods and TAKE OUT! ICK! Hubby and I both worked overnights and I worked 2 fulltime jobs so it was just easier for us to grab burgers from mcdonalds and go..same with the kids. Never been thru a detox Im sure it wont be good...but Im mostly worried about my children detoxing. Their ages are 6,5 and 20 months...any info on this or suggestions? We havent started eating Raw yet but trying to get some info first and I dont want them getting sick over it! Any help would be great!

I think I would try this gradually. Maybe, first start by just eating at home more. If your children like burgers or tacos, make them at home. Try adding leafy green lettuce or spinach instead of iceberg. Serve cut up carrot and celery sticks with hummus instead of fries. Use canned black beans instead of refried beans. Macoroni and cheese? Make it homemade instead of the box and serve with a raw veggie salad. This way there would not be a major detox period and your kids could adjust gradually.

Thanks...my kids do love veggies and fruits its just it was much easier on our schedule to grab something out..u know? My 5 yr olds favorite thing ever is a salad....a big huge green leafy salad. LOL! My 4 yr old loves them too...as for my little one..I gave him lettuce yesterday on his highchair tray..he spit it out..think it might be a texture thing but the raw musherooms he gobbled right down along with the other veggies!!! Maby should I try switching them to just vegetarian at first? WOuld they still detox?

You should check out Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Diet. She's more Macro than raw, but she outlines three types of transition diets, (from highly processed to whole foods), and the tolls on the body that can be expected from detoxing and how to make it easier on you. There are some good recipes in there too.

I found an amazing blog you might like - http://www.greenandcrunchy.org/. The Mama has 5 children and raising them vegan, mostly raw. Thought it might give you some ideas. My mouth is always watering after reading her blog.

I agree with PP, I would just introduce things slowly. My kids love juices and smoothies. We also make lots of raw desserts which they really like. I love Ani Phyo's Raw Food Desserts.

Good luck on your journey!!

I think its a good idea to start slowly too.
I've heard that first clearing out the intestines/bowels is a great first step since this is the first route of elimination. If the digestion and elimination routes aren't functioning properly it will slow down the elimination of toxins (or so I've read). So eating more fiber rich foods might be a good thing to try.
Also just simply increasing your water intake substantially has a gentle cleansing effect on the body.
Good luck!
We are contemplating a similar move over in our house. But since I'm still breastfeeding my 12 month old almost exclusively I am hesitant to make any drastic changes since toxins do flow into breastmilk.
