I'm 34w5d and got oked for my homebirth today. My midwife asked me to think about the GBS screening. If I do it it'll be done at 36 weeks, and if it's negative no worries. If it's positive she can bring antibiotics to the birth and I can choose to have them early, or later if my temp goes up and/or I have ruptured membranes for 18+ hours. It won't risk me out of my HB.
Normally I'd just decline the test and take the abs at home if i was running a fever and/or ROM 18+ hours. It seems simpler to just decline and deal with it in labor, esp since I know that tests can be positive one week and negative the next. The complication is I am allergic to penicillin. My MW can carry penicillin, but can't cary clindamycin, the antibiotic I would need. So.... at that point if we felt I should get the abs then we'd have to transfer.
If I test GBS+ we can get a scrip for the clindamycin and we can have it on hand. I can choose to take it early in labor, or I can choose to take it if my temp goes up, or I can choose to take it if i have ROM 18+ hours.
I feel like I should get the test... but I also feel like the tests I have done this pregnancy have come back to bite me in the butt. Any thoughts?
