5 Pounds to Forget About by Memorial Day

Come join our new thread this month for your 5 pounds (more or less) goal!

I am starting at I DON'T KNOW WHAT weight. My scale is all over the place this week. Mostly up, for some odd reason, though I'm keeping my calories quite low and exercising. I'm guessing it's a female water weight thing.

Anyway, I made my goal last month, and want to be at 131 by Memorial Day.

I would love to join, I am have gained 2 lbs over my highest weight ever now, and just having trouble controlling my diet these days. Having a very hard time fighting the emotions! It sounds silly but I have visions and dreams and see myself free of emotional binges and being down to my goal weight, which is about 20 lbs from where I am now. I want to be able to control and clean up my diet to whole healthy foods!

Joining. I lost 5 the past 3.5 weeks and would like to lose another five by memorial day. That's over a month away so should be doable. Especially since the weather is better so I can get outside and bike more.

ETA- I am doing WW now as I need the in person accountability and group support. But I still focus on clean whole foods. So no sugar-free jello or anything.

When is memorial day?

I am back. I did not hit my goal for the last two "5 pounds by___" threads. Ugh. But I am totally re-doing my diet for one week to test myself. I am working a little experiment.

quote for my ending post on the last thread.

am going to try something out for one week. I am going to stay below 1,500 calories every day for 7 days. But the biggest change is going to be "when" I eat. After a frank talk with my BFF yesterday I had to admit that the night eating could be what my problem is. So even if I did have a calorie differential of 500 to 1,000 just about every day I was still not loosing like I should have been. I work evening and don't get home till past 9. I CAN NOT eat a 600 (or more) calorie dinner at 9:30 and then go to bed at 10/10:30.

I am going to have to really figure out how to juggle that. I might pack a dinner to eat between the gym and my work and then have a shake before bed. Is it bad to eat a meal right after you work out?
I am a creature of habit so this is going to be an interesting week.

If I type this out here I am going to remember it more. SO bare with me

Morning:
special K cereal with rice or soy milk (or other light breakfast)

Lunch:
my 'big' meal of the day

Before workout: ??? snack of some sort

the tiny bit of time between workout and work:
light dinner (salad with chicken or other)

After Work: protein shake

I just weighed in at 158 a few days ago. I've managed to keep losing even though DD was in the hospital and I ate like crap and did not exercise at all for like a week. I'm hoping to get back to my routine though. I can definitely lose 5 lbs by memorial day. 153! That's only 7 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight!

I'm in. I am at 187-188lbs, i want to be below 185 by memorial day, closer to 180 if possible.
I've been biking and walking our hilly neighborhood with dd.
I want to add in some strength training too. Good luck everyone.

I'm in! I've been doing Couch to 5K and occasionally a work out DVD. I think cutting portions will help me the most to lose the lbs. as I am pretty active.

I started @ 200 lbs about a month ago. I've lost 4lbs by increasing activity without much change in diet.

So by Memorial Day I'd ideally like to be down 10 lbs to be 186lbs....for now

I'll be showing up for accountability from time to time! Good luck to us all! :

I'll shoot for 10 lbs by Memorial Day.

Thanks for starting the new thread, Rosemary!

I have just discovered something soooo interesting. I've been noticing that despite continuing my regimen, I haven't lost any weight this week, actually am up. Well, turns out that it is mid-cycle for me, and looking back at my charts, I tend to gain weight mid-cycle and then have my biggest loss the week following ovulation, before AF. I googled this, and it turns out it's a thing. What was interesting to me was, I came back from my vacation last month at this time of month and had gained what I thought were 4 lbs, even though all my clothes fit the same. I only got AF back in December, and really hadn't thought much about it other than that I wasn't weighing myself during it. Well, right after returning and finding myself that much heavier mysteriously, I tightened up my diet/exercise and lost 5 lbs in a week. Well...it probably was more like 1 pound and the other 4 were mid-cycle water. Now I'd been getting depressed this week about keeping up but not losing any weight, and not getting to goal despite my best efforts. I will now be interested to see if I don't lose big following ovulation.

Interestingly, my "theory" is panning out. I think that ovulation occurred yesterday, and today, I've lost 2 lbs (2 of the 3 I was up) despite going to two events yesterday and eating a huge piece of lasagna and a huge piece of cake, and ice cream. Usually I'd have gained, but instead I lost! So I think the gain mid-month is definitely water.

I would like to join you, if I may. I am possibly looking at surgery this summer, and I am trying to get myself into the best shape I can by then. I an on day 4 of my self-designed plan, and so far I am sticking with it. Since I have a significant amount of weight to lose, I will shoot for 10 lbs by memorial day but be thrilled with 5!

What's your plan exactly? I just love to know what the different people in the thread do. Welcome!

Candipooh, you've had a rough time. I'm so curious about how your little experiment is going?

Before workout: ??? snack of some sort
What have you decided on for the snack?

the tiny bit of time between workout and work:
light dinner (salad with chicken or other)

After Work: protein shake
Best of luck1!!

Wow, getting close the pre-preg is an awesome feeling. I'm so happy to be here to watch that happen. Or not watch, actually, but to...read.

Welcome! What's your plan?

I effectively took the weekend off. Today I didn't track at all. I definitely stayed within my plan, I just needed a day of not looking at Spark People! I did take a nice long walk and then garden all day. So I wasn't naughty, just resting.

How did the weekend go for you all?

I'm in again! I only lost 1 pound in last months challenge and I'm still about it. I was getting exercise 4 x's a week, kicking butt on my runs, saying no to chocolate most days and same with bread. At one point during the month I was down 5 lbs... How in the world did it jump back up 4? Oh well, we'll try again. I'm bound to get into some more of my summer clothes!

Greenbeing, are you midcycle???
Rosemary I start my new Candipooh experiment today. I went of my diet for a few days. I explained about my week from hell in the last loose 5 thread. I totally went off the diet but I still went to the gym. Now this week I am going to try out the new schedule. I am not sure about what to have for the 'before workout snack' perhaps one of the 100 calorie multi-grain buns with a dab of peanut butter. Any ideas on something that will help give me the energy to get in a good workout?

I am starting out at the same weight I started out with last month 168.5 Ugh. Oh well. Oh and I am mid-cycle as well but I also went off my diet for 5 days. So here is to a new week, a new way of doing things, a positive way at looking at stressful situations and loss at fat.

I'm in.

I've been on and off with working on losing and getting into shape over the past 2 years (I also got divorced, moved 4 times, started WOHM for the first time in 7 years...been busy!) and I sometimes beat myself up about not sticking with it, but I realized that I *am* down about 50 lbs from my postpartum weight right after my 4th was born, 2.5 years ago. So that ain't nothing!

I'm starting at 173.5, so 5lbs down will be 168.5, which will be more like my weight before I started having kids!

I am doing low-carb eating, and I completely cut sugar/sweeteners out of my diet over a month ago. I'm working on eating mostly meat, veggies, nuts, beans, dairy, and a little fruit. Not perfectly low-carb, but works for me and is more sustainable than totally low-carb. I also started the C25K running program this weekend, and really want to stick with it. Having you all to cheer me on will really help!

Rosemary S-F, I am always interested in hearing peoples strategies as well!

I started by cutting out soda (which is a giant vice of mine). Once I got over the crippling headaches, I moved on to the diet part. I am aiming for 1500 calories a day with an emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, more water. I also made a commitment to exercise. Basically, the sensible plan everyone knows, but I never have tried.

The most important part of my plan is that I have given up on expecting to lose 5 lbs a week, and hope to see 5 lbs a month instead. That 5 lbs a month is 60 pounds in a year, which would equal a much more healthy me!

Can I join you? I'm finally focusing on losing weight since ds was born 8 months ago. I've been doing low-carb/primal eating for the last 2 weeks and I'm down to 170 from 175. 169 was my pre-preg weight for ds, so that's actually pretty exciting. On the other hand I was 134 before dd was born so I really have some lbs to go before I get there.

In addition to giving up grains, sugar, and reducing carbs in general, I'm also trying to stick with the exercise recommendations at Mark's Daily Apple. I'm trying to do lots of low level exercise (mostly walking with the kiddos or a yoga video) and one day a week of sprints (or other high intensity exercise) and lifting heavy things twice a week. So far I've been good about the low level exercise and today I did sprints for the very first time. The lifting heavy things is harder though because I had to give up my gym membership because of money issues, but I'm going to try doing kettlebell workouts 2 times a week for that.

So I'm actually hoping to lose 10lbs by Memorial Day. I've decided to set mini weightloss goals for my journey and pick an exciting reward each time I hit them. When I hit 160 I've promised myself a massage. If I make 160 by memorial weekend then my mom and I can go together during her visit that weekend.
