I googled this, and it turns out it's a thing. What was interesting to me was, I came back from my vacation last month at this time of month and had gained what I thought were 4 lbs, even though all my clothes fit the same. I only got AF back in December, and really hadn't thought much about it other than that I wasn't weighing myself during it. Well, right after returning and finding myself that much heavier mysteriously, I tightened up my diet/exercise and lost 5 lbs in a week. Well...it probably was more like 1 pound and the other 4 were mid-cycle water. Now I'd been getting depressed this week about keeping up but not losing any weight, and not getting to goal despite my best efforts. I will now be interested to see if I don't lose big following ovulation.
hmm, i've been noticing bloating during ovulation and weight gain too I will have to compare my weight loss to my charts now to see if there is a pattern or not. I happened to start charting the exact same time i began my weight loss program so i will have to analyze this theory.

Welcome, lovemybabybird! Are you going to go into the functions with a strategy? I'm just saying that because it always helps me enormously to carve out either a number of calories for the day of the function, or if I'm so lucky as to know what the menu will be, to pre-enter it into my sparkpeople page. Of course, Eat To Live doesn't do calorie counts, does it? Will you stick to ETL during your functions? Anyway, congrats on the weight loss so far!

Enkmom, was this your first week in? That's a crazy awesome loss.
Yes, this was my first week. It shows just how badly I WAS eating, because I have been eating about 1500 calories a day this week and am surprised to have lost this much. I must have been eating like 10,000 a day before this!

I had one hurdle this week - a joint birthday celebration for my children. I had chicken nachos and a piece of cake (and felt physically miserable from all the fat for the next 2 days). My daughter turns 21 on Tuesday, so I will probably forgo the cake but join her for a cocktail. Anyone know what my best bet would be? Beer or mixed drink? I am not a big drinker, so will easily stop after one.

well tomorrow i have a wedding to attend so that one it pretty much up in the air as i have to drive a couple hours for it and it at lunch time. Well pretty much I am allowing myself to cheat on those days, like mother's day and then dh's bday, but in eat to live dr. fuhrman says if you are going to cheat, make it outside the house, so i guess that is what i plan to do. Of course if there is salad and fruit at the wedding for example, i will eat it, but i have learned through the past few months doing this plan, if i say i will never cheat then i am pretty much setting up myself for failure, but if i know when i will go off plan i am more likely to bounce back and not continue on a downward spiral back to overall unhealthy eating.

I haven't followed eat to live to the T and I am still seeing great weight loss, i think mainly for me limiting dairy and wheat is what is helping me in weight loss. I don't eat much meat either so that may tie into it, but overall, I think that balancing my bad food choices with tons of good food choices is the best way to go, because if i went into this determined to never eat another piece of cake again or another piece of cheese, that is being unrealistic and i could never stick to the plan and would end up eating the whole cake and the whole log of cheese in the end, hope that makes sense.

Try a champagne cocktail (or just a glass of champagne)! Champagne is elegant, low-calorie (90 calories a serving) and very festive. That's what I would do. Cocktails are NOTORIOUS for being crazy caloric hogs.

Oh gosh, no. I was just wondering if you were going to stick to any kind of temperance or anything.

Last night I got SO insanely snacky because I'm expecting AF and I ate pb right from the jar. Dipped in maple syrup. Then 2 pieces of cheese. At night. That wasn't my only slip up for the day, but it was the one that makes me think I should have just taken it easy yesterday (mentally) and not tried to keep to a regimen. I need days like that. Ah well.

I'm at 132.4, so that's 1 for last week

I haven't really lost, but seem to be holding steady...I weigh everyday, so I have to be mindful not to get freaked out about the fluctuations.

I did w2d1 of c25k today, then walked the rest of the (hilly!) 5 mile loop I was on to get back to my house. That felt good.

I'm having trouble sticking with low-carb, esp when I'm not home, or with others, but I'm keeping it around 100 g per day, so not awful, I guess. Today has been pretty much carb-free though, which is good.

I think I'm pretty close to my AF, so I'm hoping that the lack of loss is connected to that -- I *know* I'm eating better, and less, and exercising more, so I'll stay the course!

I also started tracking my food on fitday again -- it helps me to see it all in black and white, even if it is a little tedious to enter everything.

Have a great week, y'all!

Congrats! That sounds pretty intense.

my hardest times are with other people as well.

You know that if you continue as you are you'll succeed!

I can't do it without this either! My magical thinking kicks in without my daily dose of sparkpeople.

Have a great week, y'all!
thanks

Is anyone still there?
I'm still here. Hit a little slump, 1 week of no loss and 1 week of 1 lb loss, but I'm down 1.5 lbs this week already so back on track. Stopped the nighttime eating again and starting losing again.

Rosemary, are you at your goal? 1 more pound, right?
I am still here too...just slumping a bit. I am nearing the end of my semester and the stress is getting to me. I haven't gained and I am keeping up with my workouts, just not cutting my calories enough to lose any weight. My last exam is next Monday and then I will have ore mental energy to focus on my diet again.

I'm still here!!!

No loss to report yet , but AF is due any day, so....

Rosemary, thanks for your sweet response to my last post, it really made my day!

I walked yesterday morning, and am hoping to get time to do day2 of week2 for c25k today.

enkmom, and Ilovemybabybird, how did the celebrations go? I have 2 birthday parties with my kids this weekend...one at a friend's house who makes *the best* cake, but i'm going to steer clear. The real test for me, will be in a couple of weeks when it is my ds's b'day. it is soooooooo hard to make and frost a cake without at least licking my finger. But I just can't do it. I am too much of a sugar addict. Every other time I've given up sugar, making a birthday cake for one of my kids has been what does me in....I'm going to need you all to help me stay strong this summer! After this birthday in may, i have kids birthdays every 6-8 weeks until october!!

I have 3 exams this week, and finals are next so i've been a bit busy. I went for a bike ride yesterday, and am about ready to head out on a walk/run. Strength is tonight.
On the eating front, i've been doing ok- last night i went a bit crazy at the late night study sesh. I ate way too many lay's with green onion dip. Seriously, cannot have these in my house!

Sugarmoon- I understand about the birthdays. Fortunately for me, this is the slow part of the year. August- march is my busy time where there is a bday every week it seems. Last year i gained 10 lbs that time, of course thanksgiving and christmas were in there too. Saying that, you can tell i didn't refrain from cake eating .
I do so much better if i just don't eat sugar at all. I haven't had much, if any, in about a week.

I'm still here, too - I just didn't want to bore everyone with the mundane details! I am losing weight at an astonishing rate. It will be 2 weeks for me on Thursday, and I have already lost 9.4 lbs! I can't break myself of the weigh every day habit, and I am terrified that once the weight loss slows to a more reasonable level I will panic/give up and put it all back on.

Altogether, it hasn't been that hard, although some of the days have been very long. I am aiming for 1500 calories a day. I am using Sparkpeople, and tracking everything. I hit all my goals regularly except that am a little under on protein nearly every single day. I had another test last night - we went to Steak n Shake for dinner. I had a single burger (no cheese), a salad, and a child size cherry coke and stayed within my allowance for the day and I didn't even miss the fries (very much). Tonight is my daughter's birthday party, and then I have my nephew's birthday party/mother's day on Sunday. If I make it through this week without blowing it completely it should be smooth sailing until the 4th of July.

That is still such amazing progress. I'm really impressed with how much you can lose so quickly! I got AF so no, no goal

Ah, school stress. Well, I hope you do well on your exam. Keeping it steady is a good plan!

Nope! I can't have ANYTHING as it turns out. I will eat jelly out of the jar if a sweet craving hits me. It's so mortifying.

Already, I'm not boredIt will be 2 weeks for me on Thursday, and I have already lost 9.4 lbs! Still not bored. You're doing awesome!!!! No fries? Dang, girl.

Well, I am back from the party. It was not a champagne kind of place, so I had 2 MGD 64's and 1/2 a shot of something called a Purple Hooter. I am still a little under my calorie count for the day, so I will probably have some Greek yogurt or some popcorn.

My meals are very similar throughout the week, as that is how long it takes for me to get bored/go to the store. I only eat breakfast about twice a week, and have shredded wheat or oatmeal. For lunch, I have been eating turkey on those sandwich thin bun looking things, with dijonnaise, lettuce and tomato. With this I have pretzels and a piece of fruit. Otherwise it is 2 pieces of Wasa whole grain crispbread with a little round of Laughing Cow cheese and the pretzels and fruit again. Dinner is a small portion of whatever meat I fix for my husband, then load up on the vegetables and have a salad with just a teeny amount of dressing. Snacks are usually Greek yogurt with a little bit of all-fruit jam mixed in, or some popcorn, or a popsicle.

I didn't eat the fries because fries, chips and pizza are very slippery slopes for me. I start and don't stop until they are gone. I was living very dangerously to have the cherry coke, as I have been soda free for almost 2 weeks now. My secret snack food is chocolate Teddy Grahams or low fat 'Nilla wafers. They are both reasonably low in calories and don't feel so much like "diet food".

Named by a stone cold sober person no doubt

thanks for sharing your meals. I like those sandwich thins alright. I think it makes a nice panino. Also, I was impressed about the fries choice. My mother comes each week and takes me and DS out to lunch. Even when I choose no fries, I end up eating a bunch of the fries that my mom orders "for the table." She does this so she can have some, but not look like she's having a lot. She constantly sabotages, subtly, my healthier choices! It's irksome; I need to learn to resist those temptations. Perhaps when I stop feeling like I have to excuse her unhealthy behaviors by participation, I'll stop giving into the temptations.

I like those snack foods you mentioned, but I can't even have them because of my tendency to overeat junk foods, even better choices. But good for you for having the willpower!
Sweets are not my big problem. With the Teddy Grahams, one serving is a whole lot of those little buggers, and I can make myself eat them slowly. With the 'Nilla wafers, I get 8 whole cookies! There is no other cookie you can eat 8 of and still be within calorie range. I am all for any food I can have plenty of.

I understand about the fries. I would literally have to sit on my hands if there were fries "for the table", because I would be in them in a hot minute. I can't eat pizza because I don't think I have ever in my life eaten less than 4 slices at once. Chips and salsa at the Mexican restaurant? Forget it! If it is salty and greasy, I love it, and can't be anywhere around it.
