Tobin Tiberious is here!

Hello everyone,
Tobin was born on April 18 at 2:34 pm.

Short version: Transfer to hospital for severe pain that didn't go away between contractions after 3 days of labor (some of which wasn't bad). Born after 86 hours of labor, an epidural, pitocin and some antibiotics (due to my temp rising).
Tobin was 8lb13oz, 14in head, 21.75 in. long at birth. He was posterior with some sort of tilt.

My story sounds similar to wishin&hopin's story. I started labor on the 14th at 11:30 pm. Very light contractions about 7 min apart. I slept through most, and they went away until the next night when they were a bit stronger. Friday day we went out with my parents to get flowers for the garden. During that trip I decided i needed to get home and concentrate. Friday night I started having serious contractions, and some burning pain in my back that didn't go away between contractions unless I labored on all fours. Eventually that stopped working. The pool helped for a while, then nothing helped. My entire abdomen and back BURNED with no relief. The midwife came to check me, 1 cm. I labored some more with great difficulty and she came to check me again when DH was sure I was in transition. 2 cm, maybe. I was in so much pain she suggested we might want to transfer. I was totally against it so she took a nap on the couch while I tried to continue to labor. She came down again when her partner showed up, and about 30 min after she left, I told her partner that I wanted to transfer. It took over an hour and a half to get the epidural (travel time, iv bag, etc) but when I did BAM I started dilating immediately. I was 9 with a lip at 2pm. We were all sure baby would be here by midnight. Nothing happened. Started pitocin at the lowest possible dose and worked our way up. At 9am the next morning I got the all clear to push at 10cm. (I didn't reallyfeel the urge but at this point....) Pushed for 2 hours with some progress. Dr. told me to take a break and nap. During my nap the pain would come back on either side of my body due to the fact that I couldn't sleepon my back, and the epidural would sink due to gravity. I finally got the intense pressure feeling, and we tried to push again. After 2 hours of pushing where I saw his head for the last hour, Tobin was born, head shoulders, body all in one push. Placenta came out 1min later. He was having trouble breathing so they took him away for far too long... (poor DH was beside himself watching me cry because Tobin was crying, and watching Tobin)

I was so disappointed to transfer, but we all realized after I got there that there was no way he would have been born without it. I wasn't dilating due to pain/stress.

I am just now surfacing into the real world due to nursing issues. He wouldn't latch AT ALL... But all is now well. I'll post more updates later.

s to everyone. DH is sleeping with the little guy on his chest right now. What an incredible sight.

There really is nothing like seeing your babe asleep on your partner, is there? It has to be the most wonderful sight in the world.

Triony, that sounds extremely challenging and like you made the absolute best choices that you could have made. So, I'm sorry that things turned out in such a way that required transfer, but I'm very proud of how strong you were giving Tobin his birthday.

Great job, Mom!

Hugs to you!! I had a looooong labor like that with my first who was posterior.

I know the birth wasn't idyllic. But it is wonderful that the hospital let you labor with pitocin instead of opting for something more convenient for the doctor. You should be so proud of yourself for pushing your baby out with all that you went through. Many warm congratulations!!!

Welcome Tobin! And what a strong, dedicated mama he has. For some people, birth is a trial by fire - you now know that you will do ANYTHING for this little man. I wish i could say the rest of parenting will be a breeze now, but know that you will draw strength from his birth, even though it didn't look how you expected it to.

Not in your due date club, but wanted to pop in and say "congratulations" and that I LOVE the name!

Congratulations, and welcome Tobin!!

I think it is clear you made absolutely the right decision for you, and it sounds like you had a great birth!

I agree it is an amazing sight to watch your partner with the new little one(s). One of my favorite parts of every birth has been listening to dh tell me the baby is almost here - the memory of the awe and love in his voice every time will stay with me always.
