I'm 37 weeks pregnant with our second baby and have been battling with a eczema-type rash that has been getting progressively worse. It started with an itchy spot on my ankle about two months ago or so and has progressed to a super-itchy rash covering almost my entire body, with some patches that have scabbed over and are now painful. I have never had eczema before, but after looking at pics online and reading descriptions, my midwife and I have decided that is probably what it is.
So the question is what is causing it. I went off wheat and it still continued to get worse - in fact it escalated at a much faster rate at that point. Now I am off dairy and eggs to see if that will help. I have also tried going off all supplements/herbs to see if something I was taking was bothering me. I've taken milkthistle and dandelion for a few weeks as well with no results. So far nothing has caused it to slow down or subside.
I am supposed to see an alternative Dr. in a week (that was as soon as he could get me in) who does muscle testing for allergies and other infections, etc. I'm hoping that will get us some answers. Until then, I am not sleeping because the itching is so bad and am getting to the point where I'm not really functional anymore and don't want to go out in public at all.
I've tried numerous topical things to try and get some relief and so far nothing has helped - in fact many of them seem to make the itching worse - calendula, burdock, dandelion, neem tree oil, coc. oil, olive oil, tea tree, etc. The only relief I can find is freezing myself with an ice pack.
I use Charlie's detergent, natural soap, hardly any other beauty/hair products at all and can't think of any other environmental things it could be.
Has anyone else had or heard of anything like this? We've ruled out PUPPPS and the other dangerous pregnancy itchies - this seems to be an allergic reaction to something. I don't know if hormones could cause something like this, or what. I'm assuming it's pregnancy related.
Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be or what we could try? Or even just some remedies to give me some topical relief? I would appreciate any ideas or help - I'm really desperate.
thanks very much.
