Hypothetical Question

I'm not pregnant, but, as usual, between ovulation and my period I wonder what I'd do if I was. Forgive me if this has been asked before.

I'm thinking that I'd like to UC if/when I get pregnant again. Would it make sense to have a baby at home where I was comfortable, then later, maybe after a nap and a bath or something, go to the hospital to have baby and I checked out? Or would baby automatically end up in NICU or something?

What would you want the hospital to do? You can assess if he is breathing, eating, pooping normally, kwim? There are checklists of specifically what to look for. I would hire a midwife to come do a checkup on my baby at home WAAAAYYYYY before I would take a healthy baby to a hospital.

I....um...don't know. I believe in birth and that the body knows what it's doing but...hmmm. I know that my insurance won't cover a midwife (tried three times with three separate pregnancies). Maybe get in touch with a pediatrician if I wanted a check up?

Yeah. If I were going to UC, I would probably go for a well baby visit at about a week old. I have a NP/CNM who works at a local clinic that my other kiddos have gone to. She knows I am very non intervention and is respectful of my nonmainstream parental decisions. It would be important, IMO, to find a doc who isn't going to freak out about the UC. Maybe start out by calling up a local midwife and asking for a pediatrion recommendation.
