HEEELLLLLPPP!!! How do I know if I got the job?

I applied for a dream job in February. I had an interview in March and a second interview 3 weeks later. During the second interview the board director and the former director kept saying things like, "tell the group what you told us about your ideas about...." It was a very positive interview. It's an executive director position and the hiring team is comprised of unpaid, volunteer members of the board of directors. The whole process has taken a looooooong time.

Last week, the board president e-mailed to let me know that the board was going to meet on the 22nd to choose a candidate. This person asked how soon I could start and how long it would take me to relocate.

The board met yesterday and I've heard.... nothing. nada. zilch. crickets chirping.

I am on pins and needles. Stomach in knots.

What should I do? Should I keep waiting, since so far the pattern shows that they seem to do things slowly? Should I send a nice follow-up e-mail to the board president, or would that be rude?

It's KILLING MEEEEEEEE!

I would wait until probably mid-week before sending an email or making a phone call. I've served on a couple of boards, and sometimes things - even really important things like hiring a director - can get pushed back for various reasons. Meetings often get cancelled or moved because of paid work responsibilities or family emergencies. If you haven't heard anything by mid-week, then I think it's okay to email but with the assumption that you probably didn't get selected.

I agree with this. I applied for a job last fall at a local university and it was weeks before I heard anything.

I agree with waiting 1/2 - 1 week to contact them again to follow up. Good luck! I know it can be torture waiting!

did you send a "thank you for the interview" letter or card? you could..
you'll likely get a letter either way, whether you got the job or no (but i hope you hear positive news soon!!)
