Several diaper questions

1. Anyone use a diaper service with prefolds?

I am debating this one as I look at replacing some of my stash for the next babe. The thing is, I currently use all fitteds and DH and Grandma *will* currently do diaper changes. I don't know if this would happen if we were to switch. Also, they would sit for a week...and I don't really know even though I buy used diapers how I feel about a service that way....

2. Did I ruin my FB pockets with Desitin or something? They leak ALL THE TIME now. (I only have 2 but they are in good shape other than this, they are the one-size pockets) Or is it that I need to resize it or something? It doesn't seem like that is the problem. It's gotten so I avoid them because EVERY SINGLE TIME I put one on him it leaks. (actually I should pay attention I think it might just be the yellow one not the light blue...)

im pretty sure desitin with a pocket diaper (or any cloth diaper) is a no no. if you hold the fb under some running water, does the water bead up and run off, or does it soak through like its supposed to? if it runs off, the diaper has build up and you need to strip it. there's a couple ways to do this, but what works for us is a bunch of hot (as hot as you can get it) washes with no detergent.

I don't use a diaper service, but I was able to convince my mom and dh that prefolds aren't as hard as they look. Both were willing and thought it wasn't too hard.

Yes, desitin can cause build-up on cloth dipes. I had success with squirting a little blue Dawn on mine, scrubbing with a toothbrush, rinsing in the sink then throwing in with the diapers and washing on hot hot hot until no more bubbles. Good luck!

I use a diaper service with prefolds. It works great. We have a big trash can with a lid next to DD's changing table and it works out fine. But then, she is EBF so her poops are not bad stinky.

Our service washes and returns our same diapers back to us.

see i don't know if they will be sending back the same ones. I'm also rather happy with my fitteds.

Thanks for the ideas on my fb. What do you use if you can't use desitin?? (I had to do something, the end of his penis got irritated badly--my mom 'forgets' you just can't leave them in cloth like you can a disposable--and once it started, it just kept being irritated, that was the only thing that really took care of it. )

you can cut up some fleece (like an old fleece blanket) and lay that in the fb as a liner to protect the actual diaper. we use burts bees diaper cream and havent had any issues yet.

Hi. We use a service since DD was 3 months old. It is great. But once we move into our new house and finally get a washer and dryer we will go back to using our own prefolds.

The service picks it up once a week and drops new ones off. We do not get our same ones. I am not worried. They use an intense washing system that uses hot steam and minimum water. They use 60% less water than home washing with an HE washer. There dipes are also non toxic.
However, it does cost $18 per week. If we pay for 12 weeks in advance we get a free week. Doing our dipes at the laudromat was costing $17 per week in cash...and then A LOT of time.
